Gigabyte has been on the move in the past two years with vastly improved products and a revamped motherboard design. We saw the X570 AORUS MASTER at Computex and it left us very surprised with its power phase system and its cooling system.

Will it meet all of our expectations? Will it be the perfect candidate for AMD Ryzen 7 and AMD Ryzen 9? All this and much more in our analysis! Here we go!

But before we start, we thank AORUS for giving us this product to be able to do our analysis.

X570 AORUS MASTER technical characteristics

Unboxing

AORUS has also joined the AMD X570 party with a few high-end motherboards, but the one that can stand out the most from the rest for its excellent quality / price ratio is this X570 AORUS MASTER, which we will dedicate ourselves to analyzing today.

And, first of all, we need to take it out of its packaging, which consists as always in a very thick rigid cardboard box with a case- type opening. Throughout the exterior area you can see numerous photographs of the plaque, as well as relevant information about it in the back area. A whole festival of lights and sound for the presentation of this excellent plate.

Now what we will do is open it, and then we will find a two-story system with the plate stored in a cardboard mold and with an antistatic bag. On the second floor, is where we find the rest of the accessories, something quite interesting when we talk about plates. Let's see what we have:

  • X570 AORUS MASTER DVD motherboard with drivers User manual Quick installation guide 4x SATA cables 1x Wi-Fi antenna GCable connector for A-RGB Cable for RGB Noise detection cable 2x thermistors Velcro strips for cables Screws to install M.2

Among the programs that we can have for free with this motherboard we can mention Norton Internet Security, cFosSpeed and XSplit Gamecaster + Broadcaster. Without further ado, let's start with the review.

Design and Specifications

For now, the motherboard that AORUS presents us with better specifications is the one that occupies our review, the X570 AORUS MASTER. Clearly standing on par with high-end motherboards from direct competition, we talked about MSI and its MEG series and Asus with its ROG series of course.

AORUS has also used a large number of metallic elements on this PCB, specifically aluminum. Starting with the chipset, this time we have a heatsink installed independently and with a turbine-type fan to improve efficiency, since the power of this chipset is much higher than what we had to date. Also installed independently, we have the aluminum heatsinks of the three M.2 slots, of course with thermal pads already installed and ready. In addition, they have a simple hinge opening system.

If we continue upwards, we find a great EMI protector on the rear panel that is practically general tonic in the high range, which has a lot of RGB Fusion LED lighting inside. Just below is the XL dual-sink system for the 14 phases of the VRM with integrated heat pipe for better heat distribution, 1.5mm thick and 5W / mK conductivity thanks to a series of pads silicone thermal. If we continue downwards, an aluminum cover has also been installed on top of the sound card, which in this case is presented with RGB lighting highlighting the DAC SABER that we have installed.

It is interesting to know that this X570 AORUS MASTER has headers to install external temperature thermistors, such as the two that are included, and another headend to install an on-board noise sensor, and thus have even more advanced ventilation management through Smart Fan 5 and the FAN STOP system that turns them off when their cooling is not necessary. For cooling solutions, we find sensors for the water flow and for the pump.

All the expansion slots have been improved by implementing a metal protection in the form of a steel plate to make them rigid and more durable against continued use. The contact pins are completely solid for durability and the base plate has been built with two internal copper layers between the substrate, responsible for separating the electrical communication pathways.

If we turn the motherboard over, AORUS has made an effort to make a fairly premium set, using a practically integral cover in this area with aluminum, in order to give the set rigidity, resistance, and why not, improve a little refrigeration.

VRM and power phases

Like the rest of the boards we are analyzing, the X570 AORUS MASTER has substantially improved its general power system. For this, a 14-phase power VRM, 12 + 2 Vcore and without a PWM duplicator has been implemented, so all these phases are real, so to speak.

In the power stage we have no less than two 8-pin EPS connectors each, this is striking because we have seen boards with a higher phase count and do not use a system as complete as this. But of course, this is due to the 14 MOSFET DC-DC Infineon IR 3556 PwlRstage 50A, which give us a signal width of up to 700A thanks to an input of 4.5V at 15V and an output of 0.25 to 5, 5V to power the components of the motherboard at an operating frequency of 1 MHz.

Arm yourself with patience to remove the heatsinks from the motherboard. Not suitable for restless people?

These MOSFETS will be controlled by a Digital PWM controller also built by Infineon that sends a signal to each of the elements. The second stage is made up of the same quantity of high-quality CHOKES and a system of capacitors that stabilize the voltage signal so that it is as flat as possible at the input of the components.

Recall that these boards must be prepared to host processors that have up to 16 cores, such as the Ryzen 9 3950X, and it is clear that AMD will have some ace up their sleeve for the next 7nm FinFET CPUs that arrive.

Socket, Chipset and RAM

AMD has wanted to keep the AM4 socket in this new generation of processors, which seems to be a very attractive option from the point of view of the users. The reason is very simple, we can install 2nd and 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors , and 2nd generation Ryzen APU with Radeon Vega graphics integrated into it. It is true that we do not have compatibility with first generation Ryzen processors, but who would think to install one of them on this powerful board?

And it is that AMD has not only built new processors, but also a new chipset called AMD X570, which comes with 20 lanes PCIe 4.0, yes, the new generation PCI is already in desktop computers, and AMD has been the first to do so. In case you do not know, this interface doubles in speed to version 3.0, with up to 2000 MB / s per lane. Which comes great for installing the new NVMe SSDs that deliver performance of up to 5000MB / s. Similarly, this chipset is capable of housing up to 8 USB 3.1 Gen2 10 Gbps ports, NVMe SSDs and SATA ports, among other options decided by each manufacturer.

At X570 AORUS MASTER, we have a total of 4 DIMM slots with steel gussets. If we have a 3rd generation Ryzen processor, we can install a total of 128 GB on Dual Channel, while for the rest, it supports 64 GB as you may already know. Thanks to the compatibility with XMP profiles, we will be able to install RAM memories with more than 4400 MHz (OC) in 3rd generation, while in 2nd generation, it will support speeds of up to 3600 MHz (OC). Let's not forget that Ryzen now natively support up to 3200 MHz non-ECC.

Storage and PCI slots

Where the important chipset comes into play in this X570 AORUS MASTER and in all, it is especially in the storage and PCIe section, since now the distribution of lanes is more extensive, and allows greater capacity. The manufacturer has installed a total of 6 6 Gbps SATA III ports and 3 M.2 PCIe x4 slots, also compatible are SATA 6 Gbps. And only one of these slots is connected to the Ryzen CPU, specifically the one located above, with a compatible size of 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110.

The chipset takes care of the rest of the connectivity, with the 6 SATA ports and the two remaining M.2 slots, where it offers compatibility with sizes up to 22110 in the first, and 2280 in the second. In fact, the manufacturer provides us with important information about the functionality of the connectors depending on the device we connect, we will find this in the guide:

We just have to take into account that if we connect an SSD in the third slot (2280) we will lose the availability of SATA 4 and 5, that is, the two that are located in the lowest area of the group. For the rest of the elements, it is interesting to see the few limitations we have on the board, clearly demonstrating that the X570 with 20 lanes has a bus to spare. If we go any of the boards with Intel Z390, we will see many more limitations about connectivity.

When it comes to PCIe slots, a total of 3 steel- reinforced PCIe 4.0 x16s have been installed , and one PCIe 4.0 x1. The first two X16 slots will be connected to the CPU, and will work as follows:

  • With 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs, the slots will work in 4.0 to x16 / x0 or x8 / x8 mode. With 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs, the slots will work in 3.0 to x16 / x0 or x8 / x8 mode. With 1st and 2nd Gen Ryzen APUs.. and Radeon Vega graphics, will work in 3.0 to x8 / x0 mode. So second PCIe x16 slot will be disabled for APU

This is because these two slots share bus width, as the CPU only has 16 PCIe lanes. The third PCIe x16 slot, as well as x1, will be connected to the chipset working as follows:

  • The PCIe x16 slot will work in 4.0 or 3.0 and x4 mode, so only 4 lanes will be available in it. The PCIe x1 slot will work in 3.0 or 4.0 and x1 mode, and both do not share bus width.

Network connectivity and sound card

The final hardware section of this X570 AORUS MASTER is that of sound and connectivity, which, once again, we find elements of the highest level with triple network connectivity.

Precisely we started talking about the network, specifically the wired network. On this occasion, the manufacturer wanted to live up to its competition by implementing two wired network ports. The first of them has a Realtek RTL8125 controller that will give us a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps. The second is a more common controller by Intel I211-AT, giving a speed of 1000 Mbps. If anything characterizes these new boards with AMD is that practically all the ones we have analyzed have double wired connectivity. It is true that they are the ones with the highest performance, but it was not common to date.

In the same way, we have news also in wireless connectivity, and it is that in this case we work under the IEEE 802.11ax or Wi-Fi 6 protocol for friends, one of which we have discussed at length in Professional Review with a few of review of routers behind us. This time AORUS has used an M.2 2230 Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card. It gives us a 2 × 2 MU-MIMO connection that increases the bandwidth in 5 GHz up to 2404 Mb / s and in 2.4 GHz up to 574 Mb / s (AX3000), and of course Bluetooth 5. At last we have clients for These powerful routers, with much higher bandwidths and much lower latencies, where we can overcome wired networks are a problem. You should know that if your router does not work on this protocol, this bandwidth cannot be reached, being limited by the 802.11ac protocol.

As for the sound section, the manufacturer has opted for a Realtek ALC1220-VB codec, which technically is the one that offers us better benefits for a motherboard. Supporting high definition audio through 8 channels (7.1). Giving support to the central chip, we have a DAC ESS SABER ES9118 that will give us a dynamic range in 125 dB output and high definition in 32 bits and 192 kHz. And accompanied with this DAC we have a TXC oscillator that provides precise triggering for the analog-to-digital converter. In the condenser part, we have WIMA Nichicon fine gold.

I / O ports and internal connections

X570 AORUS MASTER has the almost obligatory on-board control buttons, such as power or reset, or a switch to select which BIOS we want to use. In addition to a debug LED system that displays messages regarding the status of the BIOS and the board.

And now we are going to see the list of ports that we find on the rear panel:

  • Q-Flash Plus button for BIOS Clear CMOS button 2x Wi-Fi antenna connectors 2 × 21x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C3x port USB 3.1 Gen22x USB 3.1 Gen14x ports USB 2.02x RJ-45 ports for LAN connection Audio output S / PDIF5x Jack of 3.5mm for audio

To help the south bridge (chipset) of the motherboard we have an iTE I / O controller that performs certain tasks with the low demand connections of the motherboard. Apart from this, the discrete number of USB 3.1 Gen2 ports that we have is noteworthy, mainly because the triple M.2 has taken enough lanes of the chipset and there is not much room for more ports. In fact, two of them will work as 3.1 Gen1 with 2nd generation Ryzen processors.

  • Now let's see the internal ports of the motherboard: 7x fan headers and water pump 4 RGB headers (2 for A-RGB strips and two for RGB) Audio connector for the front panel 1x connector for USB 3.1 gen2 Type-C2x connectors for USB 3.1 Gen1 (supports 4 ports) 2x connectors for USB 2.0 (supports 4 ports) Connector for noise sensor 2x connectors for temperature thermistors Connector for TPM

Finally, it remains to be seen how the count of USB ports that we have on the motherboard, both internal and external, will be distributed. We will differentiate between those connected to the chipset and the CPU.

  • Chipset: USB Type-C I / O panel and internal connector, 1 USB 3.1 Gen2 I / O panel, 4 USB 3.1 Gen1 internal CPU connectors: 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 and the remaining two USB 3.1 Gen2 E / S panel S.

BIOS

We find a very renovated design and we believe that it is on the crest of the wave in BIOS. This particularly is very stable and with a wide variety of options to have our system well monitored. Very good job AORUS!

Overclocking and temperatures

At no time have we been able to upload the processor at a faster speed than what it offers in stock, it is something that we have already discussed in the review of the processors. Although we want to give proof, nevertheless we have decided to do a 12 hour test with Prime95 to test the feeding phases.

For this we have used our Flir One PRO thermal camera to measure the VRM, we have also collected multiple measurements of average temperature with the stock CPU both with and without stress. We leave you the table:

Final words and conclusion about X570 AORUS MASTER

The X570 AORUS MASTER is one of those motherboards that are going to mark the market with its 14 power phases, lighting system, top-of-the-range cooling with rear armor that helps cooling and a very elegant design.

At the performance level we are in front of one of the most competent motherboards. Although at the moment we cannot overclock the AMD Ryzen 3000, we are sure that when the option is enabled it will be one of the most expensive.

We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market

We really liked the NVME heatsinks mounted by the AORUS Master, the 2.5GbE + Gigabit wired connectivity and the Wi-Fi 802.11 AX (Wifi 6) connection that will offer us compatibility with the new high-end routers.

The price of the X570 AORUS MASTER will range from 390 euros. It is certainly not one of the cheapest motherboards on this platform, but it is worth, without a doubt, every euro it costs. We think it is a 100% recommended motherboard for the new AMD Ryzen 9. What do you think? Will it be your next motherboard?
