Xiaomi mi 9t review in Spanish (full analysis)

At this stage of the game you will surely know the Xiaomi Mi 9T, a terminal considered as the flagship of the mid-range for its groundbreaking quality / price ratio. Only a few days ago that the pro version is marketed in Europe, two terminals from Redmi and that Xiaomi has made them global with the Snapdragon 730 processors for ours and 855 for the Pro version along with 6 GB of RAM and triple rear camera GCam compatible.

In addition, it is one of the few terminals in the mid-range with a front Pop-up camera that eliminates the notch completely to have a “single screen” of excellent glass design and very daring colors.

We tell you about our experience with it after a month of use. A terminal that here a server bought from Gearbest with one of those great discount codes for only 269 euros.

Xiaomi Mi 9T technical characteristics

Unboxing

We are going to try to make this review agile and short, counting especially our experience of using the terminal after this considerable period of time.

Regarding the Unboxing of the Xiaomi Mi 9T, the presentation of this global version arrived directly from China is exactly the same as that offered by Xiaomi in Europe. It is then a black solid cardboard box that has the exact measurements that the terminal cover occupies. This has arrived in perfect condition inside a plastic mat and after a wait of exactly 25 days.

Inside the bundle we find the following elements:

  • Xiaomi Mi 9T Smartphone 15W Power Adapter USB Type-A - Type-CExtractor Cable for Dual SIM Tray User Guide Paste Case

Design: very bold and with personality

Perhaps many will think that the design of the Xiaomi Mi 9T is almost bordering on the tacky, but for taste colors. I and those around me liked the aesthetic result a lot, mainly due to its differential appearance with respect to the typical top-down gradients.

This time Xiaomi has opted for a palette of three colors, red, blue and black. Red and blue are combined with smooth black in the center, while black features a carbon finish behind the glass layer. You will see in all the photos of this terminal some strange reflections and different color, that is caused by the light and the camera, but in reality it is a smooth and very bright blue. Much prettier in person than in photos in my opinion.

The entire rear area is made of glass, while aluminum has been used for the sides. These sides actually have the same color as the back area, that is, blue or red, very bright and really eye-catching. Finally, the screen glass features a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

As for the sensations in the grip, I must say that it is a mobile phone that slips a little, and we never recommend taking it with wet hands because it will surely end up on the ground. I break a spear in favor of the case it brings, which is made of black hard paste and a silky touch that feels scandalous in the hand. In this case we do not have the typical silicone that after two weeks is yellow, it lasts much longer and the feeling in hand is excellent.

The size of the Xiaomi Mi 9T is quite tight to have a 6.39-inch screen, signing 74.3 mm wide, 156.7 mm high and 8.8 mm thick with a high weight of 191 g due to use of the glass. They are very similar measures for example to the Redmi Note 7 to give an example, and consequently we have an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a useful area of 86.1% thanks to the absence of 2.5D edges and notch.

We go to see the lateral areas that this time are not wasted. Starting from the bottom, we have a USB Type-C connector, the only multimedia speaker, microphone for calls and the tray for the dual SIM with its corresponding access hole. Be careful, because this time we have no memory expansion, just space for a microSIM

In the right side area, we will have only the volume buttons and the off or lock button. The red button has also caught my attention in the blue version, and I think it breaks the aesthetics of the set .

Finally, the upper area is occupied by the Pop-up camera with a not-so-useful notifications LED for usability, who the hell has the phone in front and back? We are pleased to announce that we have 3.5mm Noise Canceling Headphone and Microphone Jack. We do not have an infrared sensor in this version or in the Pro.

AMOLED screen without notch

The Xiaomi Mi 9T mounts an AMOLED screen built by Samsung of 6.39 inches and with an FHD + resolution of 2340x1080p, which makes a density of 403 dpi. Quite standard and that at this point we could not ask for less. As already mentioned, we do not have a notch and the edges are rounded 2.5D like most terminals. We must know that the screen of the MI 9T Pro will be exactly the same.

Despite being a mid-range or premium mid-range mobile, the quality of the screen is very good, and it is not common to see AMOLED panels so good in this price range. It is true that it does not compete in the high-end flagship segment, but the image quality is worth mentioning. We have a very good color rendering with 103% NTSC with HDR support and a brightness of 600 cd / m 2 with 60, 000: 1 contrast.

We are then facing an "all screen" mobile, although we still do not have those frames as extremely fine as they do have the top range on the market. And we can not ask for more in this price range, since 86% of usable area is quite good and is only surpassed by mobile phones with a curved screen and little else.

We are powerfully struck by the fact that the Pro version has exactly this same screen. In fact, they are two identical mobiles on the outside and that only changes the internal hardware.

Sound with a single speaker

We only have a speaker at the bottom that has remarkable sound quality. Perhaps what has caught our attention the most is the high volume, although it begins to distort in highs, especially. But the fact of having this high volume will allow us a very good quality at normal levels for the user.

A very interesting detail is that we have a 3.5 mm jack on the top, something that for example the Xiaomi mi 9 does not bring and not many high-end either. It is a great detail and the quality with speakers like the Razer Hammerhead DUO that I use every day is excellent.

Security systems: good, but not excellent

Again we have to put ourselves in context and not ask a mobile phone of 300 euros to work as one of 900. In this Xiaomi Mi 9T (and in the Pro version) we have a fingerprint reader on the screen and also facial recognition.

The first system is the same as that used by the Xiaomi mi 9, and in sensations, use and speed it is practically the same. Maybe slightly faster, but you still have the everlasting problem of needing to place your finger fairly well centered for authentication to succeed.

As for facial recognition, it is simply the one that brings the Android system from the factory. We do not have our own systems like those of Oppo or Huawei that work impeccably. In any case it behaves quite well, detecting us from quite a distance, very close and even in low light and having a beard. With the glasses, it does have more problems, and the speed is not as high as in devices that do not have a pop-up camera, since the time lapse that it takes to exit is noticeable.

Hardware and performance

The Xiaomi Mi 9T has a perfectly understandable section of hardware for its price range, with a Snapdragon 730 along with its Adreno 618 GPU. This SoC has a count of 8 64-bit cores, where 2 Kryo 470 work at 2.2 GHz and another 6 work at 1.8 GHz. To this we add a 6 GB LPDD4X RAM memory working at 2133 MHz.

For its storage we have a new generation UFS 2.1 type internal memory, although we are not yet in the records of UFS 3.0 for high-end terminals. We hope that it will soon become a standard for all Smartphone. It will be available in 64 and 128 GB versions, although we recommend going for the 128 GB version due to the fact that it does not have expandable storage. A pity without a doubt to lose this functionality so widespread in the mid-range.

Next, we leave you with the score obtained in AnTuTu Server, the benchmark software for excellent in the finished Android and iOS. In the same way, we will leave you the results obtained in the 3DMark benchmark for those who are considering this model also to play.

The Smapdragon 730 processor is more than enough to give us a completely fluid experience of use under any circumstances on a day-to-day basis. And it is that, in terms of use for navigation, and applications, we are honestly not going to notice the difference between a 730 and an 855 for example, at least me. If we already get into gaming or 4K recording, things change a lot and yes, the 9T Pro version or the Mi 9 will make a difference.

Android 9.0 + MIUI 10 operating system

The Xiaomi Mi 9T brings the Android 9.0 Pie system along with its MIUI 10.3.11 customization layer. Xiaomi is doing an excellent job with its layer, giving it frequent updates and excellent ease of use and fluidity. We still have the problem with updates on devices with notch pending, although in this case the 9T will go perfectly by dispensing with it.

For the rest, a very clean and very easy to use layer, although it is not yet at the OxygenOS level of the OnePLus but it is among the best three or four. We have hardly any junk applications and a very important detail, it comes in perfect Spanish as you would expect from a Global version imported from China.

Pop-up camera and triple rear sensor

We come to the section that many will be waiting to finally opt for this Xiaomi Mi 9T or not. And the truth is that the photographic experience will be very good, but as you will understand it will stay below the top range terminals. In fact, the most prominent terminal in this mid-range in terms of photographic quality may be the Xiaomi mi A3, which mounts the same main sensor as this Mi 9T, although its software is slightly more optimized.

Rear camera

Enough talk and let's look at these sensors. In the back we will have the well-known Sony IMX582 Exmor RS of 48 Mpx as the main one, with a 1.8 focal length and CMOS type. The second sensor is an Omnivision OV8865 telephoto lens with an 8 Mpx 2.4 focal length that provides a 2x optical zoom to detail distant objects. The third sensor is a 13-megapixel Samsung S5K3L6 ultra-wide angle that generates a 124 ° image with a 2.4 focal aperture. All this accompanied by a Dual Flash LED.

The quality of the photos is worthy of a high range, since with these sensor specifications this is how it should be. But it is the Xiaomi software that still needs programming work behind it so that the color rendering is of a higher level. This point, for example, has been improved in the Mi A3 giving very good results.

The Xiaomi application still sins of processing the images too much. This translates into images with somewhat more saturated colors than what reality represents and even making a slight watercolor effect on distant objects when conditions are not good. Personally, I liked the results obtained with artificial intelligence deactivated rather than activated during the day. This is a matter of perception and perhaps you like it more the other way.

Regarding the wide angle, the image quality is still very good , without a fisheye effect and with very wide images and good detail. Too bad that the images that we place here are compressed to the maximum and low quality. The telephoto lens is also a great addition that gives us 2x optical zoom to further increase the versatility and possibilities of the terminal.

Night mode performs well on most occasions, especially when the environment is not too dark. But we see that in places where the lighting is very contrasted it is difficult to understand what is happening, causing overexposure or too much darkness. We also do not forget the portrait mode, which Xiaomi always does quite well in this new generation and with great naturalness.

Finally, recording can be performed at maximum 4K @ 30 FPS, being limited by the processor's capacity. In the Pro version the FPS rate will rise to 60. In both cases we have a good stabilization in the motion recording and in general, we have been very satisfied.

Front camera

And now we move to the front area, where we have the already famous Pop-up camera, periscope, retractable or whatever you want to call it. This can be customized in terms of the on / off sound and the lighting it shows on its sides when it goes up. It is a 20 Mpx sensor with 2.2 focal aperture.

The quality is also very good, providing a very natural look to the photographs and with a correct portrait mode. Sometimes it is a little difficult to focus at a medium-long distance, perhaps because of the detail behind us.

GCam support

But the best thing about these Xiaomi terminals is that they are compatible with the Google Cam or GCam application. And it can be a great advantage and the reason to opt for this terminal and not another one with a higher cost, because without a doubt Google is the one that has the best photo application for cameras. This is evident in the Google Pixel 3 where all of them directly sweep the competition in terms of quality and photographic interpretation and only one sensor.

Here we leave you a small comparison of some photos taken in GCam and the native Xiaomi application. In all cases, the use of IA Xiaomi has been omitted and the HDR mode has been left on automatic. The image on the right corresponds to the one made with GCam, while the one with the watermark is made with the Xiaomi application.

Battery and connectivity

We are getting closer to the end and now we will talk about the Xiaomi Mi 9T battery. Again we have no less than 4, 000 mAh inside that also supports 18W fast charging. The charger that is available in the bundle provides us with a 15W charge, which is not bad compared to other models that even have a lower one. We do not have wireless charging, it is something that is still destined for terminals of more than 400 euros.

As always, autonomy will depend a lot on how we use the device and what we do with it. In the time that I have been using it, the average autonomy is two days with about 7 hours of screen approximately. It is more or less the standard of these terminals with quite powerful hardware and a large screen. Xiaomi is doing a great job in these latest terminals launched on the market, since in its day it was strongly criticized (us included) the low battery of the Mi 9, its flagship.

Regarding connectivity, both this Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro include most of the expected features of a premium mid-range terminal. Of course we have Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n / ac connection in 2.4 and 5 GHz, Wi-Fi MiMO and support for Wi-Fi access point. Similarly we have A-GPS, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS and fortunately NFC, something that we did demand in this price range. The only thing we've lost is the infrared sensor, but it's not a big deal either.

Final words and conclusion about Xiaomi Mi 9T

We start with their cameras, and it is that for 300 euros we can hesitate colleagues to have a retractable camera, with a little sound and a little light, there is nothing. Outside jokes, the 20 Mpx selfie works great and the triple rear camera is also at a high-end level with GCam. Xiaomi does have to be clever in its software and the interpretation of colors.

For example, the hardware, a Snapdragon 730 with 6 GB of RAM generates a fluid day-to-day experience just like an 855. Only in gaming should we opt for the 855 if we want everything to be perfect. We also recommend 128 GB of storage as memory cannot be expanded.

Regarding the design, it is an all screen, if notch and with a useful area of 86%. It is true that it is not almost 90% of the OnePlus, but again, for the price we cannot complain. And if you are thinking about the Mi 9T Pro, its design is exactly the same. I loved the case that it brings, and the aggressive colors that the brand has raised, very bright red, blue and carbon black. Even in this range we have no resistance to water and dust.

We recommend reading our guide to the best mid-range smartphones.

The connectivity is very complete, with even NFC or the 3.5mm Jack. The autonomy is about two days with medium use, thanks to 4000 mAh with 18W fast charge. We only lacked wireless charging and an infrared sensor. There is no shortage of facial recognition and fingerprint sensor fast enough.

And finally the multimedia aspect is also outstanding. We have high quality sound with a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen with lots of brightness and great colors. The MIUI layer also works very well with this hardware, fluid, simple and current, although without reaching the excellence of Oxygen OS.

We finish with the price, since currently we can find the Xiaomi mi 9T for an approximate price of 322 euros for the 64 GB version and 335 for the 128 GB version on Gearbest, but there are discount codes that make it really cheap. This and the Pro version are the best purchases we can make.
