We end our round of comparisons starring the Xiaomi Mi5, this time we are going to confront it with the Sony Xperia Z5, an excellent smartphone of the previous generation and which has shown itself to be one of the best terminals on the market. Xiaomi Mi5 vs Sony Xperia Z5.

Xiaomi Mi5 vs Sony Xperia Z5 design

Both the Xiaomi Mi5 and the Sony Xperia Z5 are built with a body made entirely of high-quality aluminum, thereby achieving a better feeling in the hand and a very premium finish. The biggest difference is found with the curvature present on the back of the sides of the MI5, something that helps to have a better grip on the terminal. The Xiaomi Mi5 presents measurements of 144.6 x 69.2 x 7.3 mm and a weight of 129 grams, while the Sony Xperia Z5 reaches 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm and weighs 154 grams. Therefore Xiaomi has managed to build a lighter and more compact smartphone.

Both terminals are based on a unibody design that gives them a much better appearance but has the disadvantage that it does not allow you to remove your battery to replace it if necessary.

Hardware and software

The Xiaomi Mi5 is one step ahead with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the most advanced chip of the American firm manufactured in 14nm and consisting of four Kryo cores at a maximum frequency of 2 GHz and the Adreno 530 GPU, a combination very powerful and that represents the return of Qualcomm to the use of an own design of the CPU cores that has given such good results in the recent past. Again we have the possibility to choose the amount of RAM memory, this time we have models with 3 GB and 4 GB available. All this managed by the MIUI 7 operating system based on the advanced Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z5 is made up of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 consisting of four Cortex A53 cores + four Cortex A57 cores at a maximum frequency of 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU. Despite being an older chip it is still one of the most powerful available on the market and ensures excellent performance without a doubt. The processor is accompanied by 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB storage expandable by up to an additional 200GB. All under control of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and upgradeable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Both have fast charging technology to fill their 3, 000 mAh batteries (Xiaomi) and 2, 900 mAh (Sony) faster and with an NFC chip, something that is the first time we see on a Xiaomi smartphone.

Two very similar and excellent screens

Two smartphones with two screens to envy, both based on IPS technology to achieve sensational image quality. We are facing two terminals with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution to offer sensational image quality while taking care of the autonomy and performance of your processor. Regarding the dimensions, they are also very similar with 5.2 inches in the case of the Sony Xperia Z5 and 5.15 inches in the case of the Xiaomi Mi5. On a 5-inch screen it is more than enough with FullHD, a higher resolution is almost negligible in terms of image quality but it is noticeable and quite a lot in battery consumption.

Two cameras with Sony soul

We come to the point of view of the two smartphones and we realize the impressive technology that is present in both cases, which is from Sony in both terminals, everything is said. The Mi5's optics have been pampered with a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with f / 2.0 aperture and DTI pixel isolation technology to improve photo quality in low-light conditions. Its shutter is very fast to capture moving scenes with great clarity and sharpness. Finally, it has a 4-axis stabilizer to minimize movement in videos. The front camera has a 4MP sensor and has a 2 micron sensor to enhance selfies. The Mi5 is capable of recording video at maximum 4K 30fps on its main camera and 1080p and 30fps on its rear camera.

If the camera of the Xiaomi Mi5 is incredible, the one of the Sony Xperia Z5 is even better with a 24-megapixel IMX 300 sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. This sensor features a hybrid focus system, which plays with phase detection, contrast, and 192 focus points to focus in as little as 0.03 seconds. It also has SteadyShot stabilization technology for very sharp photos and an impressive 5X digital zoom of the highest quality. The Xperia Z5 is also capable of recording video at a maximum of 4K 30fps on its main camera and 1080p and 30fps on its rear camera.
