3Dmark is updated and now supports vulkan in its tests
Table of contents:
3DMark is probably the most widely used benchmark tool in the world and there is practically no online magazine that does not use it to test the performance of a graphics card. Until now, 3DMark was only designed to use DirectX 12 but this will change with a new software update that adds support for Vulkan.
Vulkan is the DirectX 12 cross-platform competition
Vulkan is a cross-platform graphical API very similar to DirectX 12, both work at a low level to take full advantage of the hardware, only Vulkan is not exclusive to Windows 10 and is compatible with Linux, Mac and Android systems.
In 3DMark the support for this API was missing, which is increasingly used by video game studios that carry out their work not only on Windows but also for Mac and Linux.
The support for this API comes with the latest version 3DMark 2.3.3663 and can be used to test the performance of graphics cards in three different aspects, DirectX 11, DirectX 12 and Vulkan. Depending on the results you get, you may be able to tip the balance from one side to the other.
The truth is that both DirectX 12 and Vulkan are offering, today, quite similar performance since the two are based on the same method of operation, which is to work with low-level hardware. This is destined to DirectX 11 that does not work directly with the GPU - CPU, but has to go through other layers before, like the operating system.
