Google today announced the first Chrome OS tablet. The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 offers a new way to use Google's operating system, Chrome OS, now hyper-portable and with touch capabilities. Since its launch in 2011, Chrome OS has expanded beyond Chromebox laptops and all-in-one devices. Convertibles with touchscreens that can be used in various modes are also popular, but Google now expands the operating system to dedicated tablets.

Acer Chromebook Tab 10 takes advantage of all the benefits of Chrome OS

The device runs the same full-featured Chrome operating system that is already found in existing tablet convertibles, so those who have already experimented with Chrome OS will find no difference in system handling and features.

All of Chromebook's existing educational features like classroom IT management are working, as are the Play Store and Android apps. Support for Google's Expeditions AR software, which features a variety of lessons in biology, geography, and astronomy, will be available shortly. From a design point of view and taking into account the educational approach, this inaugural device resembles existing Android tablets.

Thick bezels surround a backlit 9.7-inch screen with a 2048 x 1536 resolution for a 264 PPI. This IPS panel supports an included Wacom EMR pen that requires no battery and can be seamlessly inserted into the tablet for storage.

Inside we find a two-core Cortex-A72 processor and four Cortex-A53. Like other Chromebooks today, it has 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage with a microSD card slot to add more capacity.

It will launch this coming April in North America for $ 329 and in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for 329 euros.
