Yesterday, the WhatsApp instant messaging application received an interesting update with which two notable novelties have been introduced, such as a simpler way to record long voice messages, and a “picture in picture” mode so that we can watch YouTube videos.

WhatsApp, progress properly

It has been a long time since the ability to generate voice messages in WhatApp so as not to have to type our messages became one of the most popular features, and also incorporated into other messaging services, however, the fact of having to maintain Pressing the microphone button to continue recording could be frustrating when you want to send an especially long voice message. In fact, on more than one occasion I have accidentally raised my finger and ended up sending a message in three or four parts.

However, from now on it will be much easier thanks to the “Locked Recordings” function that WhatsApp is incorporating in its application. Now, thanks to this function, when you hold down the microphone button to record a message, you will see that soon a padlock appears on the button you are pressing, on the right side of the chat window; if you slide your finger up and you can block the recording, put your finger to rest, and continue recording. When you are done, hit the send button and the audio recording will end and it will be sent.

You should bear in mind that, while you are recording a voice message with this new function activated, you will not be able to browse another chat nor will you be able to view the content that your contacts send you unless you use the 3D Touch on your iPhone.

Another novelty included in the new WhatsApp update is the possibility of viewing the YouTube videos that you have received in a chat through the new “picture in picture” (PIP) function. This feature is not yet available to all users who have upgraded however it is being added "behind the scenes" so please upgrade and stay tuned.
