Unboxing and design

The Airtame device is offered in a simple box, but with an elegant design based on it. bright blue color with a device outline on the front. To open the box we just have to slide the cover, once the box is open, you will see the necessary steps to connect the Airtame to your monitor and input device.

Airtame comes neatly tucked inside a plastic molded part to prevent it from moving during transport. Next to it comes a USB charging cable, an HDMI extension and a wall power adapter.

We also find a package with information on use, safety, regulation and warranty.

Airtame is a small HDMI dongle that connects to the HDMI port of any screen or projector, and allows us to send the screen content from a mobile device or a computer. It is a device only slightly larger than a standard USB flash memory, or one that makes it very light and portable.

It is manufactured with a high quality aluminum body, which ensures excellent durability, and helps to better dissipate the heat generated during operation. Airtame has an integrated HDMI connector, which allows us to connect it to the screen without using any cable.

It operates through wireless networks, so we will not have to deal with the hassle of cables. This device can mirror the entire desktop to a larger screen or use the presenter application on a mobile device to share content wirelessly from Android or iOS. Although if you need to be connected by wired network, you can also do it with an RJ45 adapter.

Among its functions it allows to transmit to several screens, as long as each screen has a connected device, at the same time using a single source. Despite being designed with wireless networks in mind, as we have previously mentioned, it also has adapters for Ethernet ports. What about DVI or VGA connections? No problem, we can use adapters to convert your HDMI interface to DVI / VGA. Be careful, it will not have the same quality as the HDMI nor will it pass the sound.

Installation and Software

To start using it, we only have to connect it to an HDMI port on the output screen, and then download the necessary software to transmit from the source device. For this we must go to airtame.com/download and download the application for your operating system.

When you first set up Airtame, you must connect it to your WiFi network, then it will appear in your list of WiFi networks so you can establish the connection and start using it. Airtane offers the transmission options of Photo, Files or Dropbox in a similar way to AirPlay.

Airtame works through its own software, available for Windows, MacOS X, Linux Ubuntu, Chrome OS, iOS and Android operating systems. This means that it is excellent for commercial applications, as you can go everywhere meeting its minimum installation requirements.

It also has a cloud database for remote device management. It has been designed for companies and educational environments where security is crucial, therefore it supports functions such as WPA2 Enterprise, access point mode and connection with IP.

This option seems super useful to us because we can track online any of the devices on our private network or any Airtame elsewhere. It also allows us to configure multiple options: home screens, wallpapers, screen resolution, refresh, creation of a private password, whether to have the led on or create a 4-digit pin to start a stream (something quite common in rooms of meetings).

Final words and conclusion about Airtame

Airtame is one of the most amazing products we have tried this year. It is the ideal companion for companies that want to have all their information on multiple monitors and offer information to their employees in a simple and explicit way. Its easy use with tablets, smartphones and computers for streaming or internal meeting of content. Its functionality is brutal, since the latency is super small and you quickly get used to working day after day with it.

We would like to highlight two very important points:

It has a backend (Airtame Cloud) that allows us to monitor and control the Airtame devices that we have connected in the office at all times. For example, with several clicks we can stream or control each device. It is amazing! Background in standby mode: The firmware allows us to choose between a background image to notify our workers (leaves meetings, work management, some relaxing background…), such as putting a web page or some organization and display Apps (Google Slides, Trello, Unplash and World Clock) which are included in the beta version at no additional cost for Airtame holders.

Are you a competitor to Chromecast ? The answer is simple: no. Why? They are two totally different products, since Airtame is focused on the professional world (universities, institutes and companies) and chromecast is the perfect companion for home use, that is, it is focused on entertainment. Although both are capable of playing multimedia content, Airtame is focused on corporate presentations and not playing a movie for a couple of hours (which can be done for minutes).

We know that it has been used in many universities and institutes for daily use. It is currently available both in the Airtame store for 299 euros or on Amazon for about 360 euros.
