AKITIO has partnered with Intel to launch a special edition of the popular Node Lite PCIe Enclosure, with the recently announced 960 GB SSD Intel Optane 905P storage device, as well as other larger capacity drives as they become available.

The Intel Optane 905P is a mass storage device that is based on a new technology different from NAND flash memory. Optane makes use of 3D XPoint memory, a hybrid between DRAM and typical storage memory that is still in its infancy, but could revolutionize computing in a few years. By connecting the Intel Optane unit inside the Akitio Node Lite via Thunderbolt 3, we can fully utilize the bandwidth of this interface to achieve blazing fast performance of up to 2200MB / s read and write.

Unlike flash NAND-based SSDs that provide fast performance in large random read and write operations, Optane provides the same transfer speeds for files of widely varying sizes. Another advantage of Optane is that its access latency is three times less than NAND memory.
