Bad news for those users who still have an Android smartphone with an old version of the operating system. Starting in July, they will no longer be able to download applications or games from Google Play.

This affects devices running Android 2.1. or lower versions. For them, the few days left in June are the last days when they can download applications and games from the Google Play store.

The reason is very simple, and also obvious. Android 2.1 was released 7 years ago, and in fact it's been a long time since support is offered. It must also be said that the majority of games and applications available in the store at present are not compatible with this version of Android.

In general, it is a very small number of users who still use Android 2.1. or an earlier version. So the impact this is going to have is not too great. It is simply a good way to remember that after a while your device is facing compatibility issues and that there is no support.

From Google have confirmed that they will continue to support versions of Android 2.2. and higher. They haven't revealed how much longer they'll do that, though. So it would not be strange that in a few months we come across the news that it will no longer be possible for Android 2.2 users to download applications on Google Play.
