Amazon and ebay stop selling stuffed toys that spied on children

A year ago it was revealed that a smart stuffed toy manufacturing company called Spiral Toys was collecting the recordings the stuffed animals made. Later all of them were sent to a server . They were stored there without protection or care. Although measures were taken, more problems were discovered in these soft toys, which were available in stores such as Amazon or eBay.

These stuffed animals presented many security problems, were vulnerable, and therefore outraged many who were still available on the market. So many groups have lobbied these stores until they have withdrawn them.

eBay and Amazon give in to pressure

The stuffed animals have a microphone that allows them to record everything the child says, and they can also record messages if they want to. These data, which were stored on a server, were accessed on several occasions by unauthorized persons. In addition, it has been commented that there were people suffering blackmail. So the problem was quite serious already.

Finally, the pressure from these groups has taken effect. And two major stores like eBay and Amazon have announced that they stop selling these stuffed animals. This has been in the United States, because some stores like the one in Spain are still present, even as a recommended product.

But it seems that little by little we are going to see how these stuffed animals are removed from the market permanently. At least, we can see that Amazon and Ebay have taken the first step in this regard.
