It has been quietly but AMD has added a new functionality in its latest drivers that is aimed at improving the experience on computers with CrossFire configurations under DirectX 12. We are talking about Frame Pacing, a new technology that comes to solve the famous and annoying `` micro-stuttering '' common in Multi-GPU graphics cards and the aforementioned CrossFire configurations.

Frame Pacing eliminates micro-stuttering in CrossFire under DirectX 12

The previous video explains more or less didactically what Frame Pacing does. Currently most games have optimization and enough technology to reach 60 FPS, but there are occasions that, despite reaching that frame rate, the game seems to jerk.

Available on new Radeon Software Crimson drivers

The new algorithm created by AMD will greatly benefit teams that have a CrossFire configuration and in DirectX 12 games, an API that is increasingly being standardized with recent titles such as Gears of War 4 or Battlefield 1 that will bring it as standard. We do not know if Frame Pacing will ever be compatible in games that are DirectX 11, AMD has not said anything about it, but we are not very optimistic at this point.

For now, this new functionality is already present in the latest Radeon Software Crimson 16.10.1 drivers that we published a few days ago in ProfesionalReview.
