AMD has announced a new Radeon embedded GPU, the first to be based on the Polaris architecture. However, the new GPU is not made for conventional and portable PCs, but is aimed at digital games for casinos, medical monitors, industrial systems, digital signals and others.

The new Radeon R9170 GPU offers support for up to 5 4K monitors

The AMD Embedded Radeon E9173 is based on the Polaris architecture and uses the 14-nanometer FinFET manufacturing process to deliver up to three times the performance per watt compared to previous generations of AMD embedded GPUs.

On the other hand, the Radeon E9170 will provide a power of up to 1.25 TFLPS with a consumption of less than 40W, and includes support for encoding and decoding of 4K HEVC / H.265 and AVC / H.264 formats, as well as 3D support and the ability to power up to five 4K monitors using an HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4 connection.

AMD plans to have a long life for the Radeon E9173 and targets customers with better financial possibilities, such as casinos, industrial systems, hospitals, and much more. According to the company, this new embedded GPU will be available until 2024.

The Radeon E9170 Series GPU with PCI Express and MXM configurations is scheduled for release in October 017, while the MCM module configuration is due out in November 2017.
