Amd approved its quantum project with an i7
Earlier last week AMD announced its Quantum Project, which consists of the most powerful compact equipment ever made. This team would consist of 2 Fiji cards running in crossfire with 8gb of HBM memory , added to what all the press assumed was a high-performance CPU from AMD.
Everything suggested that AMD was thinking of integrating a processor for the AM3 + socket or failing that for FM2 +, in order to show a 100% functional team, even though in the end it launched its final project with something different, with some new high-end architecture Early performance exclusive to Quantum; dreaming costs nothing, and incidentally aroused illusions with what in the future would be ZEN its new high-performance architecture. And having a complete liquid cooling system, the cards were definitely out.
But hey, none of this happened, and in reality the fledgling Quantum project had nothing more and nothing less than a competitive CPU, yes, an Intel Core i7-4790k, along with an ASRock Z97E-ITX motherboard / ac, customized on an ad hoc basis for said project in the power and cooling sections .
Clearly AMD itself does not trust that its current CPUs are worthy exponents to maximize a crossfire of the most powerful single chip card on the market. At least today, where DX12 has not yet been definitively released and since there are no games that make use of said API, there is no real functionality.
What do you think? When AMD launches the final team will bring an Intel cpu at its core? Or in one of those AMD achieve worthy results with your current cpu's under DX12? Or better yet, integrate a new processor architecture into the team?
