While AMD has made slight progress to regain some of its old market share, it is still a long way from its peak of around 10-15 years ago. Although it is true that in recent years they have taken positive steps, there is still a long way to go.

AMD: 2.3% increase in market share and 21% more sales in the first quarter of the year

In a PCGamesN report, a new market study has revealed that AMD has surprisingly managed to increase its GPU market share. However, this would not be affecting Nvidia, but Intel.

It is well known that Intel has been struggling to keep up with demand for its processors. Because of that lack of supplies, many laptop manufacturers have been turning their sights to AMD. Specifically, its Ryzen range with built-in Vega graphics.

In addition to showing a 21% increase in sales of desktop GPUs in the first quarter of this year, despite the fact that the first quarter has traditionally been a relatively quiet period in the sale of graphics cards, AMD has also shown an increase 2.3% in the GPU market share.

In that context, Intel's GPU market share fell 3.4%, and Nvidia gained that additional percentage point of market share that lagged behind its rival's manufacturing problems.

While AMD's 21% increase in sales of desktop GPUs looks good, it's largely thanks to lower prices for its Polaris-based cards - like the RX 590, RX 580, and RX 570.
