AMD CEO Lisa Su shared the launch periods for Ryzen 3 processors, as well as the arrival periods for Vega graphics cards and the company's mobile chips during a recent conference call.

According to the AMD executive, the new Ryzen 3 processors will arrive early in the second part of the year, while the mobile chips, nicknamed Raven Ridge, will hit the market around Christmas.

Imminent release of Ryzen 3 processors, Raven Ridge mobile chips and Vega GPUs

Ryzen 3 will be processors oriented to low-end PCs, while Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 are the fastest processors in the range.

On the other hand, in the coming months AMD will launch Vega graphics cards oriented to gaming, to professional workstations and data centers.

AMD Vega GPUs will have a new memory subsystem, a faster computing engine, and "a new geometry for heat sinks that will greatly improve performance and power efficiency for the next generation of graphics cards, " Su said.

Although AMD expects users of its A-series, FX, or Athlon processors to upgrade to the new Ryzen this year, Su said this transition will most likely last until next year. Regardless, the company will not ditch its Athlon and FX chips, as they remain very popular in some countries.

In case you didn't know, Ryzen CPUs are competing with seventh-generation Intel Core processors, dubbed Kaby Lake, and will soon have to compete with the eighth generation of these chips, slated to arrive later this year.

Finally, Lisa Su said in her conference that the company's earnings during the first quarter of the year were $ 984 million, compared to the $ 832 million reported in the same quarter of the previous year. In addition, quarterly net losses were $ 73 million, compared to net losses of $ 109 million the previous year.
