Last May we talked about the new AGESA 1.0.0.6 update for the AM4 motherboards of Ryzen processors. This update promises to continue improving the performance of Ryzen processors and AMD has finally given more details about its improvements.

New details of AGESA 1.0.0.6

Veteran overclocker Sami Mäkinen paired a Ryzen 7 1700 processor alongside an Asus Crosshair VI motherboard with unknown memory modules, the test was done in single and dual rank module configuration with a maximum transfer rate of 3520 MT / s and 3200 MT / s respectively.

The AGESA 1.0.0.6 update adds new options such as Bank Group Swap (BGS) and Gear Down Mode (GDM), the first has an effect on how physical memory is managed when allocating it to applications while the second improves the memory compatibility by also affecting memory allocation commands and buses. Activating Bank Group Swap improves performance in synthetic applications, although it slightly damages games.

The best performance was obtained when using single-rank modules at a transfer rate of 3466 MT / s with CAS 14 latency, manual adjustments included sub-timings, disabled GDM and BGS, and a command ratio to 1T. Compared to automatic tuning, a performance improvement of 10% was achieved in Rise of the Tomb Raider, 16% in Hitman and 9% in 3DMark Sky Diver.

Some figures of improvement that may seem little for many hours of work but let's not forget that it is something free and that shows that Ryzen processors still have a lot of room for improvement.
