In mid-November Samsung announced that it was working on GDDR6 memory and we know that Nvidia Volta will use this type of memory next year. The next to take the step is going to be AMD, which is already working on graphics cards with this type of memory, according to wccftech sources.

AMD would use both HBM2 and GDDR6 memories in its graphics

Indeed AMD is working on new graphics cards that will use GDDR6 memory, but that does not mean that the red company is going to abandon the HBM2 type memory that has been used in VEGA 64/56 graphics cards.

AMD's strategy would be to use HBM2 memories only on high-end graphics cards and leave GDDR6 memories for those mid-range and entry-level products , although here we would be speculating, because we do not know if this will be the strategy or if they left this type of memories perhaps for professional cards.

Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix have officially declared that they will produce the fastest, lowest-powered DRAM for next-generation products. Samsung currently has a 16Gb GDDR6 DRAM listed in its portfolio, but it may take a while before production picks up. With a transfer rate of 16 Gbps, the DRAM will be able to pump 64 GB / s of bandwidth (per chip), this represents twice the bandwidth of what GDDR5 offers. The memory will work with only 1.35V.
