Amd fx bulldozer: $ 12.1m settle class action lawsuit
Table of contents:
A few years ago we saw Tony Dickey jump to the news against AMD . The user sued the Texan company for a series of problems regarding its AMD FX “Bulldozer” processors. After three long years, today the company's response to this and other users who have joined this collective complaint has been known.
AMD FX “Bulldozer” processors under magnifying glass
The processors of the AMD FX “Bulldozer” series were the cause of a drama for the Texan company in 2015.
The brand advertised some of these components as 8-core CPUs . However, due to its architecture and method of processing the data, it was not able to process 8 instructions in parallel. For that same reason, some users estimate that these processors actually have 4 useful cores .
Because of this, Tony Dickey plunged into an odyssey in which he sued AMD for misleading advertising, statutory and punitive damages, among other things. During these years, the case has been latent, but other users have been joining the demand. Finally, today we have a resolution.
After several years of investigation by different members of the jury, an agreement has been reached whereby the technology giant will pay “compensation”. According to they say, AMD will disburse 12.1 million dollars to settle once and for all this demand. To keep it in perspective, it is as if they returned $ 35 for each AMD FX “Bulldozer” CPU they had sold.
This resolution only takes into account AMD FX "Bulldozer" 8-core CPU models. Other models with fewer cores or derived micro-architectures such as "Piledriver" or "Excavator" are not taken into account.
Of course, it is a blow to the company, but with the rise in relevance they have experienced with Ryzen 300 it seems somewhat insignificant. Some users see it well, others think that it is insufficient and others that the reviews have already shown this failure.
And you, what do you think about it? Do you think that users have the right to demand this compensation or that they should have foreseen this in the reviews? Share your ideas in the comment box.
