As expected, AMD has officially released two new second-generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs to its lineup, the 24-core / 48-thread Threadripper 2970WX and the 12-core / 24-thread Threadripper 2920X. We tell you all the secrets of these new chips.

Threadripper 2970WX and Threadripper 2920X now available

The R yzen Threadripper 2970WX offers an impressive configuration of 24 cores and 48 threads, it will operate at frequencies of 3.0GHz in base mode and 4.2GHz in Boost mode, with 76MB of total cache and a TDP of 250W. Like the flagship Threadripper 2990WX, the new 2970WX also supports Dynamic Local Mode (DLM) software, which should optimize application performance by granting prime time on local memory cores to the most demanding threads.

Dynamic Local Mode (DLM) is automatically configured through AMD Ryzen Master software, and measures CPU time of active threads, classifies active threads from the most to least demanding, automatically migrates the most demanding threads to the given ones with access to local memory, and accelerates latency-sensitive, light-threaded applications without affecting heavy multi-threaded tasks. According to AMD, this should result in a 15 percent average performance boost in select apps, as well as in certain games.

Finally, the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X offers no less than 12 cores and 24 threads at a frequency of 3.5 GHz base and 4.3 GHz Boost, in this case it has 38 MB of cache and a TDP of 180 watts. Both the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and 2920X will be available starting today from all global retailers as well as pre-assembled systems. The Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX has a suggested retail price of $ 1, 299, while the Threadripper 2920X comes with $ 649.
