Intel continues to circle its 14nm manufacturing process, and has been launching several families of laptop processors for some time. This time it's up to the U series Bean Lake CPUs, that is, low power. These processors will be present in their new NUCs in conjunction with integrated Iris graphics.

Intel NUCs with Bean Lake

Specifically, 5 series of barebone have been launched with processors of i3 / i5 - 8XX9U models where the Iris Plus Graphics 655 integrated graphics processor stands out, which, although they vary in frequencies and integrated memory, could approach in performance the AMD Vega 8.

The available NUCs are as follows:

  • Intel NUC8i7BEH (i7-8559U, 4 cores, 2.7 GHz, 4.5 GHz Turbo) $ 499Intel NUC8i5BEK (i5-8259U, 4 cores, 2.3 GHz, 3.8 GHz Turbo) $ 399Intel NUC8i5BEH (i5-8259U, 4 cores, 2.3 GHz, 3.8 GHz Turbo) $ 399Intel NUC8i3BEK (i3-8109U, 2 cores, 3.0 GHz, 3.6 GHz Turbo) Intel NUC8i3BEH (i3-8109U, 2 cores, 3.0 GHz, 3.6 GHz Turbo)

All CPUs support Hyperthreading, that is, the i5 and i7 options have 8 threads, while the NUC with i3 will have 4 threads. Also note that the difference between NUC "BEK" and "BEH" that use the same processor is in the number of internal storage slots. (M.2 and 2.5 ″ for BEH, M.2 for BEK).

Finalizing the specifications, we have support for Optane, a 28W TDP for processors, a 3-year warranty, or 32GB of RAM memory with up to 2 SO-DIMMs. Connectivity is 6 USB ports, both 2.0 and 3.1 Gen2, Gigabit LAN, Wifi and integrated Bluetooth, 1 Thunderbolt 3, etc.

Prices for 4-core NUCs have been announced, $ 499 for the i7 option, and $ 399 for the i5 options. No data for versions with i3. Used processors are expected to hit the notebook market soon.

You can check the specifications of the new NUCs on the Intel website.
