Amd releases nvme raid support for ryzen threadripper
Table of contents:
AMD has officially released the compatibility of its X399 platform with NVID RAID configurations, this already allows users to create bootable NVMe RAID configurations thanks to new BIOS updates for X399 motherboards of Ryzen Threadripper processors.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper now supports NVMe RAID
Along with this support, AMD has also released a tool called RAIDXpert2, which it has created to allow users to create new NVID RAID arrays or monitor existing ones. Keep in mind that creating a new RAID array will remove data from the drives used, so you should back up your data when creating a new RAID array. NVMe RAID technology in Threadripper is only compatible with Windows 10 build 1703 or later.
Below is the basic guide to configure an NVMe RAID configuration in Ryzen Threadripper.
- Download the latest AMD RAIDXpert2 package to get NVMe RAID driver and management software.
- Update AMD X399 motherboard BIOS to add BIOS support for NVMe RAID.
- Install two or more NVMe SSDs on the system.
- Create a new NVMe RAID array:
Method A:… Using the motherboard firmware. There will be a new menu in your BIOS, or a new menu accessible with a hotkey during POST. This will vary by model.
Method B:… using AMD's RAIDXpert2 software.
- Make sure the disks do not contain important data!
- Just enjoy! No arbitrary hardware activation keys, license rights, or SSD restrictions apply. It's that easy.
With these new updates, AMD users can now create RAID configurations with up to six different NVMe drives, with AMD testing showing a 5.38x gain in IOMeter performance when using six NVMe SSDs. This configuration allows six Samsung 960 Pro drives to offer readings of over 21200 MB / s, which is almost 40 times faster than a high-performance SATA SSD.
The lack of NVMe RAID support at launch was very disappointing for AMD's Threadripper platform, especially given the large number of PCIe lanes that are available to use.

It has been discovered that the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper platform does not have NVMe RAID support although they are already working to fix it.
Amd releases ryzen threadripper 2970wx and threadripper 2920x processors
As expected, AMD has officially released two new Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX 24-core and Threadripper 2920X 12-core CPUs.
Amd ryzen threadripper will be compatible with raid nvme on September 25
AMD has already announced that it intends to add support for NVMe RAID in its Ryzen Threadripper processors through a new BIOS.
