The Core i7-8086K processor is now on sale commemorating 40 years of x86 architecture that we enjoy today on most personal computers. In celebration, Intel raffles some 40 Core i7-8086K chips, but did not count on AMD's surprise intervention in this contest. It turns out that AMD proposes to the 40 winners of the new Intel chip, to exchange it for a Threadripper 1950X CPU.

Core i7-8086K for a Threadipper 1950X

No, it is not a joke, the proposal is real, AMD proposes an exchange of the Core i7-8086K chip for a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X. For anyone wondering why they would want a Threadripper 1950X instead of a Core i7-8086K, the red company said, "It will let the numbers speak: 16 cores. 32 threads. 64 PCIe Gen3 lanes. 40 MB cache ”.

Threadripper 1950X offers superior specs compared to the Core i7-8086K, which is a 12-core 6-core processor with 12MB of SmartCache and 16 lanes of PCie. It also has a turbo clock up to 5.0GHz, in stock. But if you're one of the winners, should you accept AMD's offer?

The Core i7-8086K is basically a faster clocked Core i7-8700K, so performance between the two should be pretty close. If you're primarily interested in gaming, the Threadripper 1950X generally performs poorly on this task, unless "Game Mode" is enabled which would make it a Ryzen 7 1800X (sort of). This requires a reboot to enable it and another to disable it, and it's still a slower gaming solution than even a Core i5-8400. Also, to make use of AMD's powerful CPU, you have to buy a motherboard and memory accordingly.

Intel has responded via Twitter slyly

. @ AMDRyzen, if you wanted an Intel Core i7-8086K processor too, you could have just asked us. ? Thanks for helping us celebrate the 8086! pic.twitter.com/ZKKayaws7u

The offer for this AMD-proposed exchange is only open to Intel's giveaway winners in the United States and only to the first 40 winners.
