Amd unveils tonga xt based radeon r9 m295x
For several months it has been known that AMD is working on a new GPU called Tonga XT to succeed Thaiti XT, now finally the new GPU comes to market although in a portable format.
The new AMD Radeon R9 M295X mounts a Tonga XT GPU with a total of 2048 Shader Processors running at 750 MHz in base mode and 800 Mhz in turbo mode, 48 units of texturing TMUs and 32 units of rasterizing ROPs. The GPU is accompanied by 4 GB of 5500 MHz GDDR5 VRAM with a 256-bit bus.
The new Tonga XT GPU arrives with a 28nm process and presents a TDP of 100W. According to AMD it offers a performance 40% higher than the R9 M290X.
The first computer to mount it is the iMac Retina.
