The AM4 platform is designed to be a durable, comprehensive, and scalable solution with support for multiple generations of processors. To allow this, AMD has been releasing various BIOS updates through its motherboard partners. The latest major update has added support for Raven Ridge and Ryzen's second generation.

AMD helps you update the BIOS of your motherboard

Due to the rapid pace of innovation, some users with an AMD AM4 motherboard with a Ryzen 2nd Generation based processor may experience an issue that prevents the system from booting during initial setup. This issue can be resolved by updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest available version. For a list of supported processors by BIOS version, please refer to the CPU Support List document available on the motherboard manufacturer's website.

To update the BIOS we will need to have at our disposal a processor that is compatible with the version currently installed, many users have purchased Raven Ridge directly, so they do not have a valid processor to do the BIOS update. To solve this problem, AMD provides a starter kit to perform the motherboard BIOS update. For this we have to go to the AMD support page, complete the complete contact form and in the "Problem description" field, write "Boot kit Required" (without quotes).

In the event that the BIOS update does not resolve the problem, AMD recommends that we file an RMA with the manufacturer of the motherboard due to the possibility that our model may have some type of defect.
