Amd radeon pro duo review
Table of contents:
- First Benchmark Radeon Pro Duo show great performance
- AMD Radeon Pro Duo surprises with its low power consumption
The Radeon Pro Duo is AMD's new dual GPU card and is a highly anticipated unit as it is expected to offer very high performance with its two AMD Fiji GPUs. Luckily, the first Radeon Pro Duo benchmarks have already appeared, showing excellent performance of the new AMD gem.
First Benchmark Radeon Pro Duo show great performance
First of all we look at the performance of the Radeon Pro Duo in Full HD resolution 1290 x 1080 pixels, in this situation the new AMD card is 50% faster than the Radeon R9 Fury X with which we have a quite considerable improvement. If we go up to 4K resolution the improvement increases to 60%.
Now we go to face the Radeon Pro Duo with the GeForce GTX 980Ti and we see that in 4K resolution the difference remains at 60% in favor of the AMD solution. The negative point is that if we go down to Full HD the difference is only 30%.
AMD Radeon Pro Duo surprises with its low power consumption
Given the performance in the first Radeon Duo Pro benchmarks we have to look at the power consumption of the new AMD card. Here we have a very pleasant surprise to see that despite having joined two Fiji cores, the consumption of the card is very contained.
In idle situation, the Radeon Pro Duo shows a consumption of 82W compared to 60W of the R9 Fury and 56W of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, it is clear that at least in these conditions joining two Fiji cores does not represent a dramatic increase in energy consumption. We go to see the load situations and the results are very surprising, in the Furmark test the Radeon Pro Duo consumes less than the Radeon R9 Fury X and the GTX 980Ti. We now look at Heaven 4.0 and note that the Radeon Pro Duo hardly consumes more than the other two cards.
There is no doubt that AMD has achieved tremendous energy efficiency with Fiji silicon, allowing it to create a dual GPU card with very high performance and infinitely lower power consumption than most expected.
Finally we come to operating temperatures and there is no doubt, the Radeon Pro Duo is the coolest graphics card, the good work of its liquid cooling manufactured by Cooler Master is demonstrated.
