A while back we revealed AMD's plan to reuse their current Polaris- based RX 400 series graphics cards, with the intention of launching the Radeon RX 580, RX 570, and RX 560. It seems that this information is being confirmed thanks to various external sources.

RX 580 & RX 570 delayed until April 18

AMD is planning to relaunch its Polaris graphics cards with a new RX 500 series, which would be nothing other than the current RX 480, RX 470 and RX 460 with slight changes in frequencies and a small improvement in consumption. In other words, all the specifications would remain almost unchanged.

It is also rumored that this new series would be delayed until April 18, when it was originally planned to launch earlier that month. If you look at the technical specifications of the RX 580 and 570, we see that it is exactly the same as what had been leaked earlier this month.

AMD Radeon RX 400 series GPU name Cores / Frequencies Memory / Frequencies AMD Radeon RX 500 series GPU name

Radeon RX 480 Polaris 10 2304/1266 MHz 8 GB / 8.0 GHz Radeon RX 580 Polaris 10 2304/1340 MHz 8 GB / 8.0 GHz
Radeon RX 470 Polaris 10 2048/1206 MHz 4 GB / 6.6 GHz Radeon RX 570 Polaris 10 2048/1244 MHz 4 GB / 7.0 GHz
Radeon RX 460 Polaris 11 896/1200 MHz 4 GB / 7.0 GHz Radeon RX 560 Polaris 11 1024/1287 MHz 4 GB / 7.0 GHz

A priori it seems that both the RX 580 and RX 570 models will have slightly higher frequencies both in the graphic core and in the memories. So it wouldn't be weird… to find that RX 480 and RX 470 mutate easily with a BIOS change. Something enough in previous generations?

The one that would join this family would be the RX 560, which is exactly the same card as the RX 460, only with an increase in frequencies that would place it in the 128 MHz plus (1024) compared to the 896 MHz base the previous generation. While the alleged RX 550 that we talked about in the previous opportunity is still standing and would be based on the new Polaris 12 architecture. So we would have a new contender in the low range and we do not know what level it will be at and if it will offer any other interesting option.

We recommend reading our guide to the best graphics cards on the market.

What is clear is that the arrival of the RX 500 series will serve as the re-launch of Polaris until the new Radeon RX VEGA graphics cards arrive, these will compete with the Nvidia GTX 1080 and Nvidia 1080 Ti that currently lead in the high profile range.

Will we finally see the RX 500 series competing with the GTX 1070? Or do you think it is one more rehash with slight improvements? We want to know your opinion!
