Looking at the table we find that the jumps between generations are noticeable with the naked eye. Radeon VII comes with a clock frequency of 1750 Mhz, against the 1630 MHz of the RX Vega 64 and the 1050 MHz of the Radeon R9 Fury X. This puts the Radeon VII ahead of the RX Vega 64, and thanks to its open cooling it will allow it to keep clock peaks longer than the RX Vega 64. Although Radeon VII loses CU (control units) and ROPs (Render Units), gain total return.
Still, the biggest advance over the RX Vega 64 is that AMD has doubled both its memory size and bandwidth. This increase comes courtesy of the 7nm manufacturing, which due to its smaller chip size, has allowed AMD to integrate another 2 HBM2 blocks. There's also a memory clock speed increase from 1.89 Gbps per pin to just 2 Gbps per pin in Radeon VII.
Although the stream processors have no changes between R9 Fury X and RX Vega 64, they decrease in Radeon VII. Still, it is offset by ever-increasing clock speeds, resulting in significantly increased performance. There is an interesting fact, between generations they double the VRAM and the memory clock increases between generations, along with the decrease in manufacturing size.
Gaming performance
Having seen the evolution of AMD, we will see its performance in games. All have been tested to Full HD, 2K and 4K, to see the behavior. Configuration is I ntel Core i7-7820X @ 4.3GHz CPU, Gigabyte X299 AORUS Gaming 7 Motherboard and 4 x 8GB DDR4-3200 RAM

Here evolution is clearly seen. We are facing a leap forward between generations, especially in 4K game, although this depends on the game. It should be noted that although there are still no games capable of taking advantage of the 16 Gb of VRAM of Radeon VII, it offers spectacular performance.
Where the Radeon VII stands out especially is for a Workstation / content creation user, since in rendering the increase in VRAM is 100% usable

Here we continue comparing generations, in this case consumption, temperature and noise. As usual, the consumption is for the complete equipment, measured directly from the wall socket.

Here we see very similar consumption at rest, although the difference is already noticeable when entering the load, being the one that consumes the RX Vega 64 the most. Next up, we have the Radeon VII, followed by the Radeon R9 Fury X. This shows that 7nm is more efficient.
Already in temperatures, the Radeon R9 Fury X starts with an advantage, since the liquid refrigeration shows, maintaining 64 ºC at full load, 20 degrees less than its successors. Subsequently, the Radeon VII and RX Vega 64 show similar temperatures, despite the fact that one has a triple fan and the other a turbine.
AMD Radeon VII is it worth changing?
After comparing the three AMD flagships over time, the final assessment arrives. The AMD Radeon VII is a remarkable improvement, surpassing its predecessor in every way, although, seeing the starting price, whether it is worth it is up to you. Currently you can find an RX Vega 64 for around € 500, Against the nearly € 750 starting Radeon VII, with the R9 Fury X already discontinued.
We are in doubt, because it is an interesting purchase from the Gamer point of view, especially for the future, when developers begin to take advantage of the 16 GB of VRAM, although its high cost, even without being excessive, puts it in the range price list of the RTX 2080.
