Welcome to the fight for the low end: AMD RX 5500 XT vs Nvidia GTX 1650 SUPER. If you are undecided about which one to buy, go in to see who wins.
Not all of us have the same needs, which is why many turn to the low-end graphics card to equip their PC. With the stir of the new AMD RX range , there is more rivalry in this price range, which means having to choose. For this reason, we have faced the RX 5500 XT and the GTX 1650 Super.
Who do you think will win?
AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 5500 XT 4GB
AMD has launched the machinery in the graphics card sector, presenting a new RX series that is not bad. The RX 5500 XT is a low-end graphics which we had the opportunity to test in Professional Review. It is a model based on the 7nm Navi 14 architecture and a Navi 14 XTX chipset .
Although it has an 8 GB version, we have chosen the 4 GB GDDR6 to compare it with you with the GTX 1650 SUPER. The speeds at which your processor operates are:
- Base frequency: 1685 MHz. Game frequency: 1717 MHz. Turbo frequency: 1845 MHz.
Regarding its DirectX, the RX 5500 XT comes with DirectX 12, Open GL 4.6 and Vulkan 1.1.125.
Finally, its TDP is 130 W and we see how the DisplayPort 1.4 becomes a priority connection because we see more ports of this type than HDMI ports .
The different assemblers of this RX 5500 XT offer a maximum of 2 fans. We have been struck by how fresh this model is, thanks to a really good dissipation system.
On the other hand, it must be said that its consumption is high, standing at higher levels than an RTX 2080 at rest. For dessert, in charge, the RX 5500 XT has too high a consumption for its performance, being above an RTX 2070, for example.
Its price: the 4 GB version starts from € 190, approximately.
Gigabye GTX 1650 SUPER
The GTX 1650 SUPER is a low-end component that leaves no one indifferent because it offers really good performance. Also, we had the opportunity to put it to the test and we really liked it. For its part, its architecture is Turing (12nm) and it comes with a TU116 chipset.
This graphics card comes with a memory size of 4 GB GDDR6 at 12 Gbps. In this case, we only have two processor speeds:
- Base frequency: 1530 MHz. Turbo frequency: 1755 MHz.
We will have DirectX12 and Open GL 4.6 support. Regarding ports, Nvidia's GPU treats ports equally:
- 1x HDMI 2.0b. 1x DisplayPort. 1x DVI-D.
It must be said that, as with the RX 5500 XT, the dissipation of this range has 2 fans per GPU. Finishing describing it, its TDP is 100W.
We must emphasize that it is a graphics card that offers much lower temperatures than the AMD, working at high performance at 56 degrees. Perhaps, it is advisable to do a little OC to take advantage of it much more.
Finally, in this model we do not find an 8 GB variant.
Price: from € 150 to € 230.
Test benches
The technical sheet matters, but you have come here to see the fight of RX 5500 XT vs GTX 1650 SUPER, right?
Before we give way to the facts, say that our 2 test beds are:
- CPU: Intel i9-9900K. Motherboard: Asus Maximus XI Formula. RAM memory: G-Skill Trident Z NEO 16 GB at 3600 MHz. Heatsink: Corsair H100i Platinum SE. Hard Drive : ADATA SU750 Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1650 Super OC. Power Supply: Cooler Master V850 Gold.
Vs
- CPU: Intel i9-9900K. Motherboard: Asus Maximus XI Formula. RAM memory: T-Force Vulkan 3200 MHz. Heatsink: Corsair H100i Platinum SE. Hard Drive : ADATA SU750. Graphics card: AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 5500 XT. Power Supply: Cooler Master V850 Gold.
Finally, to say that they have been tested at the same outside temperature and inside the same box.
Synthetic benchmarks
We have done the same tests with both graphics cards. Below you have them.
In the first 3DMark, the AMD fares better than the Nvidia, scoring almost 2, 000 more points.
In the Fire Strike ULTRA, the GTX 1650 SUPER gets smaller. For its part, AMD proves to have character.
In this test, AMD and Nvidia are paired. On the other hand, the same model assembled with Asus wins the AMD.
We see again a very even performance between both GPUs. The AMD scores a little higher, but for very little.
The results of these synthetic tests give the Radeon RX 5500 XT the winner, albeit narrowly .
Benchmark in games
The moment of truth arrives: RX 5500 XT vs GTX 1650 SUPER Who will win in gaming performance?
I know that many of you have come to this post with the aim of knowing what the verdict is in video games. Coming from different manufacturers, there are peculiarities in certain tests that must be observed. Even so, we have carried out the same test on the same video games at different resolutions (1080p, 2K and 4K).
With the aim of making it as transparent as possible and not giving rise to any doubt, we detail the configurations that we have followed in each test bench.
Radeon RX 5500 XT Configuration (Automatic Settings):
- Final Fantasy XV, standard, TAA, DirectX 11 DOOM, Ultra, TAA, Open GL / Vulkan Deus EX Mankind Divided, Alto, Anisotropico x4, DirectX 12 Far Cry 5, Alto, TAA, DirectX 12 Metro Exodus, Alto, Anisotropico x16, DirectX 12 (without RT) Shadow of the Tomb Rider, High, TAA + Anisotropic x4, DirectX 12
Nvidia GTX 1650 SUPER settings (automatic settings):
- Final Fantasy XV, standard, TAA, DirectX 12 DOOM, Ultra, TAA, Open GL Deus EX Mankind Divided, Alto, Anisotropico x4, DirectX 11 Far Cry 5, Alto, TAA, DirectX 12 Metro Exodus, Alto, Anisotropico x16, DirectX 12 (without RTX) Shadow of the Tomb Rider, High, TAA + Anisotropic x4, DirectX 12
Full HD resolution (1080p)
Although it is true that Nvidia takes a lot of advantage in certain games, in which we have tried, we see a technical draw (3-3):
- Tomb Raider: Win the Nvidia with 2 more fps. Far Cry: Win the AMD with 6 more fps. Doom: Win the Nvidia with 40 more fps. Final Fantasy: Win the AMD with 1 more fps. Deus: Win the AMD with 17 more. more fps Meter: Nvidia wins with 14 more fps.
2K resolution (1440p)
Increased resolution, we continue to see a technical tie, making it clear that the difference is made by the video game. However, it is true that Nvidia takes many more fps out of AMD when it wins.
- Tomb Raider: Win Nvidia with 2 more fps.Far Cry: Win AMD with 4 more fps.Doom: Win Nvidia with 23 more fps.Final Fantasy: Win AMD with 1 more fps. Deus: Win AMD with 7 more fps. Nvidia wins with 9 more fps.
4K resolution
We finish the gaming benchmarks with the highest resolution: 4K. In this case, the RX 5500 XT performs better than the GTX 1650, with a score of 4-2. That said, none of them is suitable for a good user experience in this resolution.
- Tomb Raider: Earn AMD with 3 more fps.Far Cry: Win AMD with 1 more fps.Doom: Win Nvidia with 5 more fps. Final Fantasy: Win AMD with 3 more fps.Deus: Win AMD with 3 more fps.Meter: Nvidia wins with 5 more fps.
Although the RX 5500 XT beats the Nvidia GTX 1650 SUPER, the difference is still minimal. In fact, where we see the most difference is in Doom 4, just where Nvidia wins.
Temperature
It is very important to know at what temperature these graphics cards work because we do not want to take any scare in summer, since in certain areas of the planet the outside temperature is high.
As you can see in this comparison, the RX 5500 XT is a wolf in sheep's clothing because it is very cool at rest, but when it works it turns into hell. On the other hand, the GTX 1650 has a great behavior, achieving a much lower temperature in both scenarios.
Consumption
It is a very important issue because we notice it on the electricity bill. At Professional Review, we support the idea of energy efficiency, so we value the performance-consumption ratio positively.
The consumption of the AMD is completely excessive for the performance it offers. In fact, we are alarmed by such high consumption in IDLE. The GTX demonstrates superior efficiency in every way, being one of the least consuming graphics while idle and under load.
Last conclusions
Making a quick review or summary of everything we have evaluated in this post, we wanted to express it in points so that our final conclusions are better explained:
- Synthetic Benchmark: AMD performs better than Nvidia, though not by much. It stands out in a couple of tests, but in the others it is very even with its rival. Benchmark gaming: We get very similar performance in all resolutions except 4K. However, the victory of AMD in 4K does not seem remarkable to us because, equally, the user who buys one of these two cards was not going to play in 4K, if not in Full HD: 1920 x 1080p. In short, the difference is made by the game. Temperature and consumption: Nvidia's GPU clearly sets itself apart as a much cooler and more efficient card. Price:
- AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 5500 XT: around € 230. Gigabyte GTX 1650 Super OC: around € 185.
For Professional Review the winner of this duel is the Gigabyte GTX 1650 Super OC for obtaining similar performance at a lower price.
