The launch of the new generation of AMD Radeon graphics cards based on the Vega architecture is getting closer. AMD claims that its new technologies allow the card to consume 50% less graphic memory, so a 4 GB unit should behave like an 8 GB unit, avoiding memory problems.

AMD has been much more ambitious than Nvidia by strongly betting on HBM2 memory for its most powerful cards, Nvidia has settled for using the GDDR5X that has given it very good results in the GeForce GTX 1080 and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Time will tell us whether AMD has succeeded with its commitment to HBM2 or it turns out to be a failure and does not contribute anything to Nvidia and its more modest memory.
