Amd tressfx 2.0 improves performance and compatibility

Anonim

We all know the AMD TressFX technology used in the game Tomb Raider and also called Hair Pantenne because it works by increasing the realism and behavior of the hair of video game characters. AMD has introduced TressFX 2.0 that will no longer be exclusive to the characters' hair and its optimization has also been improved by reducing the consumption of system resources that, as you know, is one of the weaknesses of TressFX. Additionally, its cross-platform compatibility has been improved.

Performance improvement

Aiming to improve performance AMD has worked to refine the code of this second version of TressFX and even offers its source code for developers to implement, and improve it if they want, obviously Nvidia also has access to the code.

As you can see from the graph, TressFX offers better performance than Nvidia Hairworks even on systems with Nvidia graphics cards. However Nvidia Hairworks offers a high performance penalty on AMD systems due to its proprietary and closed nature.

To improve performance in TressFX 2.0 AMD has introduced different levels of detail making that the further you are from the character, the less intense and detailed is the effect of TressFX which improves the graphic requirement in an effective way.

Visual enhancements

AMD has worked on a new algorithm and on optimizing and improving TresFX code with the goal of offering more realistic and accurate physics simulations. The result is more realistic hair and higher system performance

.

The new TressFX 2.0 from AMD will be compatible with its GPUs with GCN architecture among which are PS4 and Xbox One, some of the improvements will be used in Tomb Raider Definitive Edition that will be released in both game consoles. However, Lichdom Battlemage will be the first game to use all its features.
