In a recent interview with HardOCP , AMD's Scott Herkelman clarified a few things about the upcoming Radeon VII release. Herkelman is Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Radeon Gaming Business Unit, making him the most qualified to speak on this.

Old school players will recognize Herkelman as founder and CEO of BFG, a former NVIDIA partner. Herkelman was hired by NVIDIA in 2012 as CEO of GeForce GTX before joining the Red Team.

During last year's graphics card price hikes, Herkelman launched the idea that AMD would sell graphics cards directly and not that it was solely up to the partners. Mainly to give players the opportunity to buy the hardware at MSRP (suggested price). Instead of 'hyperinflated' prices due to the mining boom.
