Amd already has its first finfet chips
AMD has already managed to create its first FinFET chips at 16 or 14nm (That has not yet been revealed). The expectation of all this is focused on that we could be facing the beginnings of AMD's new high-performance microprocessor architecture, the much-desired ZEN.
Everything suggests that it would be dealing with future "Summit Ridge" cpus with up to eight "zen" cores and "Greenland" graphics chips. Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, didn't really give too much detail, nor about what chips they managed to create, nor about their architecture nor when all this happened. Anyway, for a while now AMD has us well informed about what is happening in the company and about what they manufacture and are about to launch, so clearly this achievement by AMD is recent.
Assuming that this happened in the month of June, we must consider that it will take between 9 and 12 months for us to see the mass production and subsequent sale to consumers of the new processors. From here until all this happens, it is likely that we will obtain new information that will gradually reveal these new architectures and will generate expectations or the opposite.
For all this to happen, AMD has made a very important investment of around 150 million dollars. We are at a key moment where it will be known if AMD will be able to face the omnipotent Intel again; a new AMD failure could be withering.
