AMD is finalizing all the details for the great launch of its VEGA graphics cards, which would be none other than the next RX 500 series. The launch is so close that most of the team in charge of developing the drivers are already working on the new architecture., so that they perform as much as possible from the day of launch.

AMD works almost 100% on the drivers for VEGA

The data provided by the Anglo-Saxon site Bitsandchips tells us that 80% of the team in charge of the Crimson Relive controllers is already working exclusively for VEGA graphics cards. Apparently, AMD wants mature drivers once the new RX 500 graphics land in stores. Although AMD has greatly improved its drivers in recent years, they don't want surprises with their Crimson Relive drivers, especially since VEGA is a completely different architecture from Polaris (RX 4xx).

Currently this new architecture is divided into two classes, VEGA 10 and VEGA 11. In the first case, VEGA 10 will be used in top of the range graphics cards, while VEGA 11 will be used in the lower-middle range. This is not much different than what they did with Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 (RX 4xx series).

The presentation of the RX 500 series could be at the GDC

VEGA represents a huge leap in graphics performance over Polaris and will compete against Nvidia's GTX 1070/1080 cards. The innovations at the circuitry level are going to be important, a new memory architecture HBM2 and an update of the primary shaders will be used. The top-of-the-range VEGA graphics card should be more powerful than a GTX 1080, it is the minimum that can be demanded after long months of waiting. The new RX500 series is expected to be discussed at the conference AMD plans to give at the GDC on February 28.
