Amd zen will arrive at the end of 2016

Anonim

New information on the future high-performance microarchitecture AMD Zen ensures that it will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2016, so its actual availability in the market would be delayed until the end of the year and even in early 2017.

Zen was planned to hit the market sooner but GlobalFoundries is struggling with the 14nm manufacturing node FinFet, causing a slight delay in plans for an AMD that needs new high-performance processors that can stand up to Intel as soon as possible. Definitely bad news for those of Sunnyvale who are not going through their best moment.

AMD Zen abandons the CMT concept introduced in Bulldozer and recovers a core design much more similar to Phenom II, in addition to SMT technology that allows each core to run two processing threads, just like Intel's HiperTheading does.

AMD Zen would deliver 40% more performance per clock cycle compared to the Excavator microarchitecture, thereby bringing it to a level similar to that of Intel Haswell. The new Zen-based processors will offer up to 8 cores and 16 processing threads, four cores for APUs.
