Amd zen3 and rdna2: the architectures will hit the market in October
Table of contents:
This year the Zen3 architecture and the RDNA2 graphic architecture will arrive. AMD has it all set for them to land in October.
January and February have given much of themselves to AMD, as they have taken advantage of CES and Analyst Financial Day to present the brand's plans for 2020. We already talked about the AMD roadmap, but we have to emphasize Zen3 and RDNA2, the architectures that are to come. For now, Zen2 and RDNA have worked very well, so there is some hype to see the upcoming architectures of the red giant.
Zen3 and RDNA2 arrive in October
roadmap 2019
It seems that AMD will have a “busy” year because it has many open fronts: servers (EPYC), useful phones (Ryzen 4000), desktop (soon Ryzen 4000), graphics (RDNA2), etc. At least they can feel sorry for themselves because they have one of the best allies in computing: TSMC. And is that the chip maker is going to make possible that second generation of 7nm that is going to come with Zen3.
Although the first AMD roadmaps said that Zen3 would follow a 7nm + node, such a transition to go directly from 7nm to 5nm is ruled out. It's not just about lithography, but the questions go the same way. How much will IPC performance improve? Jumping from one architecture to another has to have its benefits. Rumors say there will be a jump of up to 15% improvement.
This improvement is expected to be less from Zen2 to Zen3 than from Zen to Zen2. After all, we still have 7nm. Regarding the models that will star in Zen3, many surprises are not expected:
- Ryzen 9 4950X. Ryzen 9 4900X. Ryzen 7 4800X. Ryzen 7 4700X. Ryzen 5 4600X. Ryzen 5 4600.
These chips would hit the market in October, as happened with Zen2 last year. However, they will not come alone: RDNA2 will land with Zen3. We already talked about the improvements of this new graphic architecture, which will be present on XBOX and PS5. For now, we will have to wait.

Do you expect a great jump in quality and performance? Do you consider that it is a simple transition architecture and that it will not bring many new features?
