Graphics card manufacturers try to support the new standards as soon as possible, something that sometimes causes the implementation to be less than perfect as it should be. A case of this we have in the compatibility problems of the latest Nvidia graphics cards with DisplayPort 1.4 and 1.3. This is a problem present in Pascal and Maxwell based cards, although fortunately it affects only a small number of users.

Nvidia offer a BIOS update tool to fix Maxwell and Pascal issues with integration of support for DisplayPort 1.4 and 1.3

The Nvidia Maxwell and Pascal graphics architectures have a problem in integrating support for DisplayPort 1.4 and 1.3. This problem affects some of the more modern monitors that take advantage of the DisplayPort 1.4 or 1.3 standards, which do not work as they should on graphics cards based on these architectures.

Users reported a number of errors on these screens that cannot be fixed by driver updates and require updates to the graphics card BIOS. Fortunately, Nvidia released a tool that can detect if your graphics card needs updating, and then update the BIOS from Windows in a completely safe way, as long as the user does not interrupt it, since in doing so the card may become an expensive paperweight.

The tool can be downloaded from the official Nvidia website, for now it is not known if it is compatible with all cards, or if it is only compatible with custom cards or Founders Editions. If you have not had problems with your card, it is better not to update for security.
