The next Android operating system was presented yesterday at the Google I / O event, it is Android N, which was practically the main protagonist of the day, showing all its news regarding Android 6.0 MarshMallow.
With Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, on the stage of Google I / O, let's review all the news that will be coming soon to our Android phones.
Android N: Multi-window mode and "Quick Switch"
One of the most interesting additions that will come along with Android N is the native support for multi-windows, with which we can use up to two applications at the same time both on mobile phones and on Tablet PCs. It will also be possible to use Android TV with its "Picture in Picture" mode.
Quick Switch is a new way in which the latest applications can be accessed by double clicking on the virtual buttons, something that can be very useful and adds simplicity to the use of the system.
Vulkan and VR graphics support
Vulkan is a new graphical API similar to DirectX or Metal of iOS, with which graphics for mobile devices and Tablets will benefit greatly. Thanks to Vulkan, developers will be able to make games with better 3D graphics and take better advantage of the device's hardware. Google has also developed the Daydream platform for developers to start creating content for virtual reality on Android.
In the following video you can see a demonstration of a game created in Vulkan:
Better notifications and quick responses
The notifications section has been significantly improved in Android N and now allows you to group the notifications that belong to the same application and give priority to those that contain images or avatar. Another quite useful addition is that of being able to reply to messages directly from the notifications section without having to enter the corresponding app, this is very useful.
Doze improvements and battery savings
The battery saving app Doze was added in Marshmallow and in this version they have decided to improve it even more. Doze will now work when the screen has been turned off for a certain time, applying processor and app data usage restrictions. This means that you can save battery power when you have the phone in your pocket, instead of having to lock it.
Restart Apps
The error window has changed in Android N and will now allow restarting applications that are not working properly.
Higher performance and lower memory consumption
One of Android's weak points has always been memory consumption and performance. Google added the new compiler called Just in Time (JIT) to Android Runtime ART with which you can improve the performance of the applications and also improve the consumption of the RAM memory of each of them. Google has commented that updates with the new compiler will be faster than in Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Smart Restart ”Direct Boot”
Direct Boo t allows calls, alarms or text messages to continue working even when Android restarts unexpectedly and the cell phone is encrypted, in addition to improving the times of each restart of the phone.
These are some of the most interesting news that will come with Android N, which already has its " Preview " version for some phones such as the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Sony Xperia Z3.
