Google has released its latest report on the use of different versions of its mobile operating system, which shows the proportion of active devices running each version of Android. Recall that these reports only include devices that visited the Google Play Store during a seven-day period that ended yesterday, July 23, and does not include AOSP devices. The most striking thing is that Android Oreo still does not take off.

Android Oreo still does not take off significantly after seven months since its arrival

Android Oreo has been on the market for more than seven months, despite this it seems that it is unable to gain serious momentum. All versions of Android Oreo combined represent 12.1% of all devices that visited Google Play during the period of the analysis. Android Nougat, on the other hand, has seen its first real decline, and Marshmallow fell 2.2%, its most significant decline between two consecutive reports. Previous versions like Lollipop, KitKat and Jelly Bean continue to steadily decrease their presence in the market. Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich fell 0.1%, although they remain stagnant with a very low percentage of use but which resists disappearing.

As for Android P, the next version of Google's operating system, it is in its candidate launch phase and has not yet reached 0.1% of the devices necessary to enter the list. The new report shows once again that fragmentation is a big problem within Android, because after seven months of its launch, Android Oreo is barely able to exceed 12% of use, something that forces developers to maintain the compatibility of your applications with many previous versions of the operating system.
