It has happened in Singapore, and it is there that Apple is investigating dozens of cases of allegedly fraudulent charges to iTunes accounts.
Possible fraud on iTunes slopes
The news jumped last weekend from Channel News Asia. This outlet claims to have spoken to two users in the Southeast Asian country who said they had both lost several thousand dollars through fraudulent transactions processed through their iTunes accounts.
According to published information, the affected customers had been banking with Singapore banks, including UOB, DBS and Oversea-Chines Banking Corporation (OCBC). OCBC alone confirmed 58 similar cases of fraudulent charges.
Also an iTunes client of the DBS bank has told Channel News Asia that six fraudulent transactions had "completely deleted" his account. As a result, the bank has stated that it is intensifying the monitoring of all expenses on iTunes in recent weeks due to the increase in cases of fraudulent activity.
Apple Singapore claims that it is investigating the charges and has, in fact, already canceled many of the transactions identified as fraudulent.
