Apple will repair the keyboard of your macbook pro, but will put back the version susceptible to problems

Apple recently confirmed a new service program to repair MacBook Pro's that suffer from a faulty keyboard. A new keyboard overhaul has also been announced, making it more resilient to problems. Many users expected Apple to change the keyboard to the new version, something that ultimately will not be.

Apple has confirmed that the new keyboard found in the latest 2018 MacBook Pro is exclusive to that line of products, meaning that the new keyboard will not be included in defective MacBooks Pro that are repaired for free by the company. A somewhat unfortunate attitude, although Apple was not expected to grant a free update.

The keyboard issue affects MacBooks Pro produced from 2015 to 2017. Many reasons have been speculated as to why the keyboard might act, but many think it happens when dust or dirt breaks through under the keyboard and enters the butterfly mechanism underneath each key.

This problem seems to have been solved with the new version of the keyboard, which has a new protective membrane, which in addition to dampening noise, serves to protect the problematic butterfly mechanism from dust ingress. Apple has not admitted that this membrane has a protective function to avoid legal problems due to lawsuits against the company regarding defective keyboards.
