Apple brings back a powerful macbook pro 17 [opinion]

Apple is used to criticism from PC supporters, but with its first major redesign of the MacBook Pro line in years, it unexpectedly encountered criticism from its own fanbase. The new laptop was underpowered, Mac users complained, it lacked the ports that people actually use, it was poorly maintained, and a keyboard needed major improvements.

They propose the return of the MacBook Pro 17

One of the aspects that most irritates professionals is the maximum amount of RAM memory: only 16GB of LPDDR3 / 2133. The reason for the limit? Apple said this saves energy, allowing them to make the MacBook Pro slimmer.

From the PCWorld site they propose that Apple re-launch a 17-inch MacBook Pro, the one that was discontinued in 2012. A series of changes are proposed that make this new Apple laptop really attractive for those who require good power and performance.

Quad-core CPU or more

Incredibly, MacBook Pro have dual-core Intel processors. Intel has an extensive catalog of low-power, quad-core processors that would fit perfectly in a 17-inch MacBook Pro. There are also the new AMD Ryzen that could fulfill this function.

A graph to match

The Radeon pro 460 is a good GPU, but it pales in comparison to other options like a GTX 1060 or GTX 1070, which are already present in notebooks and offer incredible performance.

More RAM memory

Apple decided to use LPDDR3 memory instead of DDR4, again for reasons of 'space' and to make it thinner. With DDR4 32GB of memory could have been included, since the models have 16GB each. In the case of LPDDR3 memory, each module has 8GB, so I limit myself to 16GB for using this memory.

The number of ports is a weakness

A weakness of the MacBook Pro 15 is clearly the number of ports. The laptop has four USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 3 ports. With the AC adapter in one port and an external monitor in another, you only have two ports left. Plug in a Logitech adapter for a mouse and keyboard, and now you only have one left. Plug in a gigabit ethernet adapter, and you're done. Now you have to pull devices to connect a card reader or USB memory. Surely you will need dongles.

Final thoughts

A bigger battery and an improvement in the keyboard plus everything mentioned above, would make a MacBook Pro 17 a worthy laptop for the Apple fan base and for consumers in general. Will we see it in the future model? Apple should take note of complaints from its own users.
