To install Adobe Reader on our Ubuntu system we only need an Internet connection and the Linux command console. The first step is to install the necessary packages to be able to run Adobe Reader:

sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine: i386 libcanberra-gtk-module: i386 libatk-adapter: i386 libgail-common: i386 The next step is to install Adobe Reader itself with the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ precise partner sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install adobereader-enu

Now we have to add the following repository:

sudo add-apt-repository -r "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ precise partner" sudo apt-get update With this we will have Adobe Reader ready to use in our Ubuntu operating system, a last step is to make it the default PDF reader, something that we can also do from the same terminal. First of all we need to edit the text file found in the /etc/gnome/defaults.list path using the following command:

sudo gedit /etc/gnome/defaults.list

Once the file is open we have to find the following line: application / pdf = evince.desktop , and change it to application / pdf = acroread.desktop .

Finally at the end of the file we have to add the following lines to the end of the file:

1234 application/fdf=acroread.desktop application/xdp=acroread.desktop application/xfdf=acroread.desktop application/pdx=acroread.desktop

We save the changes and close the file with:

one nautilus -q
