The upcoming 8-core Intel processors have been rumored for quite some time, although until now several of their aspects have remained unknown, especially when it comes to their compatibility with existing motherboards. H310 motherboards will support 8-core processors
ASRock has cleared some doubts about the compatibility of the new 8-core Intel processors and their current motherboards, especially those based on the H310.
Videocardz site has managed to get a picture of a new ASRock H310 motherboard, which now comes with a label confirming support for 8-core CPUs, confirming that all Intel 300 series motherboards should support 8-core processors, assuming they are using a compatible BIOS.
Intel will have two unlocked 8-core processors, the 8-core i7-9700K and the 8-core 16-core i9-9900K. The leaked specifications for these CPUs are available here.
While it's encouraging to see that H310 motherboards will be compatible with 8-core processors (this will save us costs when we want to upgrade to these new chips), it's hard to see that a user of such a low-end motherboard pays for a processor with such a high number of cores / threads. This does not mean that there are any, and for them or for future buyers, this is very good news.
