ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance is a new motherboard belonging to the Intel H370 platform, which allows us to access the benefits of Coffee Lake processors with a lower price than solutions based on the Z370 chipset. This motherboard has a very careful design, the highest quality components and a great aesthetic powered by lighting.

Do you want to know how it performs? Don't miss our review! Here we go!

As always we are grateful to ASRock for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis:

ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance motherboard is offered in a cardboard box of the best quality, the design is based on the corporate colors of the Fatal1ty series, that is, black and red, so it looks really good. The box informs us of all the most important features of the board, such as configurable lighting and support for the eighth-generation Intel Core processors, better known as Coffee Lake.

We open the box and we find two sections, an upper one where the motherboard itself goes, and a lower one where all the accessories are. The motherboard is wrapped in an anti-static bag, something very important to protect it from possible energy shocks, something that could damage its delicate components.

After viewing the presentation, we turn our attention to the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance motherboard. It is a board that is built with an ATX form factor, which will make it compatible with most of the chassis on the market, and allows it to offer a large number of ports and connections. The ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance is made from a black and gray colored PCB, just like aluminum heatsinks.

Its RGB lighting system is responsible for giving it the gaming aesthetic, so fashionable today and that seems somewhat mandatory. This lighting system is highly configurable through the company's software, it also allows us to add two 5 / 12V, 3A LED strips and a maximum length of 3 meters. Thanks to these characteristics, we can create a team with the best aesthetics, which will be the envy of all our friends when they come to our house to see it.

VRM is a fundamental part of any high-end motherboard, the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance is based on a power system consisting of 10 digital phases, each of which can deliver up to 50A of power. A high number of phases makes the work spread out, so each one of them has to work less, which means less wear and tear and more stable operation.

On top of the VRM are the XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink heatsinks, made of aluminum and offering a large surface for heat exchange, something very important to avoid overheating of the VRM. These heatsinks include lighting, which will give them a great aesthetic.

Sound is also very important for the most demanding gamers and users, that's why the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance includes the Realtek ALC1220 sound engine, which is reinforced by the industry-leading Creative Sound Blaster Cinema5 technology, and which will allow you to get the most out of this advanced audio engine.

This sound card is based on the highest quality components, and a separate PCB section, ensuring interference-free operation and clearer, crisper sound. It also includes a high impedance headphone amp. All these features will allow you to enjoy the best sound quality without having to spend on a separate sound card.

We also see the possibilities of the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance in reference to the graphics subsystem, this motherboard includes two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, one of them reinforced in steel to better resist the weight of the largest and heaviest graphics cards on the market. With this motherboard we can create AMD CrossFire and Nvidia SLI 2 way configurations, which will translate into the best performance in the most demanding games.

Another key aspect for the most demanding is the network, the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance motherboard is based on an Intel Gigabit LAN I219V controller, a network engine capable of offering a high speed and low latency connection, for this it prioritizes related packages with video games. This network system is compatible with Wake-On-LAN technology, and includes electrical protections to avoid a disaster in the event of a power surge.

Equipped with two Ultra M.2 slots that support both SATA III 6Gb / s and PCIe Gen3 x4, the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance is a motherboard that will allow you to enjoy all the benefits of NVMe storage and the most economical SATA interface based III in a very comfortable way.

These two slots include a heat sink, to prevent overheating of the NAND chips and the controller. It also includes six SATA III 6GB / s ports for using traditional hard drives, which are compatible with RAID modes 0, 1, 5 and 10

Finally we detail your rear connections:

To check the stability of the Intel Core i7-8700K processor in stock values and the motherboard we have stressed it with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphics that we have brought to the test bench is a powerful Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. Without further ado let's see the results obtained in our tests with a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

BIOS

As expected it has all the features of a Z370 motherboard. Same design and with the same options, obviously excepting those of the overclock, and monitoring resources. Since its recent launch we have already seen two new BIOS refining its main features. As always, an excellent job by the Taiwanese company.

Final words and conclusion about ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance

As we have already seen with other motherboards, in stock it offers the same performance as a Z370 motherboard. This means, if you have no intention of overclocking, this motherboard may be a great option for you.

We also like that it incorporates two NVME-compatible M.2 connectors. If you do not know this technology (already in almost all mid-range motherboards), it allows us to enjoy ultra-fast SSD drives such as the Samsung 960 EVO or the Corsair MP500. Perhaps we are missing that it incorporates a Wi-Fi connection as standard (Even if it was 1 x 1 AC) since we can save ourselves by throwing a cable into the PC room.

We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market

The price of the ASRock Fatal1ty H370 Performance is about 122 euros approximately in the main online stores in Europe. With the little price difference that exists with the more "basic" motherboards with Z370 chipset, we believe that it pays to pull for the top-of-the-range chipset, since it will allow us to overclock and that in the future may lengthen our platform for a while. But if you do not consider doing it and every euro matters in your budget, then this motherboard is a great option for you.
