During the month of January we had breakfast the news that the Denuvo 4.8 anti-piracy protection had been cracked, and with the arrival of the first video game that came out of the pirate 'scene', which was the Sonic Forces. It was a matter of time before Assassins Creed Origins ended up being cracked, even though the game had some 'extra' protections.

Denuvo 4.8 and VMProtect drop in Assassins Creed Origins

Assassins Creed Origins not only had Denuvo 4.8, but also VMProtect protection from Ubisoft itself, to make things a lot more difficult for hackers. Both protections were broken by crackers hours ago, so different versions of this game are already circulating to be able to play it without having to buy it on Steam or the Ubisoft store.

It should be noted that the Denuvo 4.8 and VMProtect protections were not removed from Assassins Creed Origins, somehow, the crackers managed to trick both systems to continue working in the background, but it is not possible to run the game without them working, at least for the moment. We do not know if this has a real impact on the performance of the or not.

The good news for Ubisoft and Denuvo is that this combination was able to protect game sales for about three months, which is where the majority of sales originate. Now, if Denuvo 5.0 is as hard to decipher as Denuvo 4.8, companies may be able to protect their future games for at least the next two months from release as well.

Now that the game has been cracked, Ubisoft may decide to remove Denuvo from the game with a new update, it would be neither the first nor the last company to do so with its games.
