Anonim

Asus F1 is the new Full HD LED projector where the brand has put all its arsenal to give us a truly complete team in terms of 1080p content reproduction through a short throw 1200 ANSI lumens DLP LED lamp to enjoy multimedia content and games with its 30, 000 hours of life. It supports HDMI and wireless connections to play directly from Android and with great sound quality thanks to its 2.1 system with two 2W speakers and an 8W Harman Kardon subwoofer.

And before we begin, we thank Asus for the loan of this projector for its complete analysis.

Asus F1 technical characteristics

Unboxing

Asus F1 has come to us in a large rigid cardboard box, which is quite bulky and above all wide. Much more than the equipment itself, do not be scared by these measurements because the projector measures just over 20 cm.

This box has a presentation at the height of a projector of almost 850 euros such as this, with a gray print finish and a large size photograph of the equipment on the main face. On the back we do find information about the projector, as well as a diagram of the rear area to see the connections, making it clear that it uses LED technology.

We proceed to open the box at once and surprise !, because we find a nice backpack or suitcase with a handle to hang where we can carry our projector perfectly safe and without damaging it. This also comes inside, and around the entire package we have a cardboard mold that also serves as departments for the other accessories.

And in this case, we have the following:

  • Projector Asus F1 Full HD LED Remote control (batteries included CR2032) Transport case Power cord and power supply (Europe) HD Cable Quick start guide and warranty

Well, just what you would expect, it is a great detail that this transport case is included, which certainly have a magnificent quality and is made of textile material with a good foam lining inside and compartments to store the projector and power accessories.

It is also a good detail to include an HDMI cable in the bundle, so that we do not have to complicate looking for one or buying it. And hey, the batteries, two CR2032 that this controller needs will also make everything plug and play.

Design

We already have everything out of its packaging and it's time to see the design of this Asus F1, which certainly fits perfectly with the brand's gaming philosophy. We are not looking at a ROG product, but it could very well have the last name, because Asus has used quite sharp lines to build the exterior cover of the project, which is entirely made of hard plastic.

That yes friends, we have a finish in imitation brushed and matte metal that is a real magnet for prints, touch wherever we touch, there we will leave our granite of dirt. Asus F1 is a relatively small and compact projector, we are talking about 250 x 210 x 75 mm. And it is that we must consider that these equipment are less heated and need less cooling space and also the power supply is smaller and can be taken out of the equipment, for example this same projector. The result is a weight of only 1.8 Kg.

On the front face we find the large lens on the left which is also protected with a cover so that it does not get dirty, the less necessary. But we also have just below a camera that is in charge of measuring the distance to the wall to be able to carry out an automatic focus of the projection, and this we liked a lot.

In the lateral areas we will find the respective grids for the air circulation of the refrigeration system, which in this case is active, so an important element will be noise when projecting content at low volumes. These grids are metallic on both sides, albeit medium grain, which will not slow down small specks of dust.

But they also serve to let the sound out of its excellent 2W dual speaker plus 8W subwoofer setup. Nor can we forget the Kensington lock slot that we have located to the right of the computer.

On the back, Asus F1 has all available connection ports installed on the computer. They are not too many, but they are enough to do practically everything:

  • DC power connector IR sensor for remote control Two HDMI ports USB Type-A output port for power and charging VGA port for analog connections 3.5mm mini jack port for connecting headphones

Certainly a fairly bare panel, because it wouldn't have been a bad idea to put a Display Port on it. It should also be borne in mind that the USB port is not for connecting flash drives and playing content, not at all, its function is to be able to connect our mobile to charge while sending the wireless signal from its screen to the projector.

Finally, at the top of Asus F1 we will have a total of four interaction buttons. The first of these will only be used to turn the projector on and off, while the other two will be used to open the multimedia center and manually adjust the presentation of the projection and to select the video input.

The fourth button is a multifunction joystick with which we can manage the entire OSD menu of the projector, as well as adjust the focus and manage the volume of the equipment. All extremely simple and intuitive to use, and we only need a few minutes to get used to it.

At the bottom we also have two Asus AURA RGB lighting bands, although they only make an appearance for decoration because their intensity is quite small.

Asus F1 installation system

You may have already noticed that we have not yet seen the lower area of the Asus F1, and this is where the installation or support system of the projector is located. Because this equipment can be used on a normal and ordinary table, or also hung on the ceiling, due to its good shooting distance.

If we prefer to install it in a portable way to watch movies, play games or whatever, the projector has four rubber feet, as well as support in the front area that allows it to be placed at two different angles to gain height if the table is small.

And if instead we prefer to place it in a fixed place, be it an office, a room or an educational room, we will also have a series of holes (3 of them) to fix it to a universal ceiling mount.

But we still have a third option of installation through a hole located in the central area than installing it on a tripod, much better option than placing it on a table if we don't have one.

Asus F1 LED Lamp and Shooting Distance

We have already managed to install where we want our Asus F1 projector, right? Well now we are going to see the full benefits of this LED lamp that has been installed, as well as the shooting distance and inches that we can reach.

We start with the lamp file, which at this point we already know perfectly well that it is a lamp with an RGB LED light source of 16.7 million colors, with an estimated lifespan of 30, 000 hours maximum. The display technology used is 0.47-inch DLP to give us a maximum resolution of Full HD at native 1920x1080p at 16: 9. So in this case, we wo n't need the Pixel Shifting that other projectors use to rescale the image from lower resolutions.

The saturation or color space of this Asus F1 is located at 100% NTSC, the standard of multimedia content such as Blu Ray movies, and of course much more space than sRGB. In addition, we have a luminous power of 1200 Lumens and a contrast ratio of 3500: 1, something unusual in LED technology projectors. And it is that in this way we can projector perfectly visible content with the light of the room on and at least 150 Lux in it and even more. Of course, we have lost HDR support, so we will not have that contrast enhancement in the image.

Another very important aspect in this Asus F1 is that it is capable of playing content in Full HD at no less than 120 Hz as the refresh rate. This makes it a highly recommended projector for gaming, since the fluidity in 120 Hz will be noticed and appreciated in video games.

But the benefits do not stop here, since we can modify the aspect ratio to 16:10, 16: 9 and 4: 3, and be able to automatically adjust the vertical keystone variation at an angle of ± 30 o, and horizontal variation manually. On the front we have a camera to perform an automatic focus, and in this case we do not have an optical zoom available. To finalize the technical characteristics, this Asus F1 supports the reproduction of 3D content, as well as the content of wireless displays through the Wi-Fi connection in the shared mode with Android and Windows devices.

The shooting distance it supports is between 43 cm giving us a diagonal of 25 inches, up to 3.7 m for a total of 210 inches. Correct focus and good image quality will be possible in this range. Remember, 210 inches is a diagonal of 533 cm, or what is the same, 464 x 261 cm.

Something quite significant is that being LED technology, the consumption is much lower than that of traditional projectors such as DLP, we went from 240W to 120W in this Asus F1.

Connectivity

Asus F1 is a projector with a good amount of connectivity options, an example of this is the capacity for a projector contained from a computer with HDMI thanks to the two connectors. Or from older computers with a VGA connector, also supporting Full HD resolution, although at 60 Hz, instead of 120 Hz.

An interesting novelty is being able to share our screen from any device that has Wi-Fi connectivity and is compatible, for example, Windows and Android. We just have to pair the projector with the computer and go to the option to share the screen to play the content.

But we also have great absences, such as the support of USB connections to play content from flash drives and portable hard drives or the DLNA support, to play content via network cable, for example, from a NAS.

OSD control, command and lighting

The Asus F1 IR sensor supports an angle of ± 30 degrees and a maximum of 8 meters away from the remote control. The only downside is that we will not be able to interact with it if we are located in front of the projector, and we necessarily have to be behind it, so if we plan to make an exhibition / presentation we will have to make sure we leave everything ready before we start.

In any case, with the remote control we will be able to control absolutely all the options of the OSD panel, as well as the keystone adjustment and the focus of the projector. At the top we have the button to turn it on and the button for the autofocus, and just below the wheel and the selection button to move through the OSD panel and select options.

Directly below are three buttons, two of which do the same function as those located on the projector itself, that is, the Keystone correction for keystone distortion and input selection. The third completes the navigation through the menu and allows us to select the Splendid image mode. Finally, at the bottom is the volume control of the device.

As for the OSD menu, we will have a total of four main sections. In Image you will find the basic settings of the image output, being able to adjust it manually or through preset modes. In the Screen section, we can adjust the presentation options, keystone adjustment, aspect ratio or the location of the projector.

In the Input section, we have the four available options, VGA, HDMI 1 and 2 and wireless projection. And in the final section of System we will have the projector's own settings regarding the language, the shutdown and eye time, the AURA RGB lighting configuration.

Yes, we also have lighting at the bottom of the projector, as we saw in the design section. In any case, it is a very dim light and we will only notice its presence if the projector is hung on the ceiling.

Picture modes

This Asus F1 supports a total of 6 preset image modes, in addition to the custom settings that we want to do in the Image menu. It consists of a standard mode, Cinema, Dynamic, Scenario, sRGB and Game. These modes will be represented in each photo below.

Standard

Cinema

Dynamic

Stage

sRGB

Game

The truth is that they are quite similar modes, and in the photos the variation in hue of each stage is not clear enough, except for the standard mode with a considerable loss in color saturation. Also in stage mode it makes a quite significant variation of colors, clarifying them in a general way and losing a little the real tones.

Personally, I would choose the cinema mode or the game mode, for presenting more vivid and saturated colors and a slightly higher contrast than the rest. Remember that this Asus F1 does not have support for HDR image, so we will not have that extra liveliness that other teams with traditional lamps do.

Sound and noise quality

The audio of the Asus F1 is undoubtedly one of its strong points in my opinion, because the brand has wanted to build a section that in addition to being able to project quality content, we can take it anywhere without missing an external sound system to be able to enjoy the movies.

And is that a double speaker has been installed as a 3W speaker for mid and treble, and a powerful 8W subwoofer to provide a high level of bass to the content reproduced. The entire installed system is certified with the quality of Harman Kardon. And the power shows, already at a volume of about half, providing high sensitivity and little distortion.

We then have a very solvent system that will work like a charm in small and medium-sized rooms without the need to provide an external sound system, since everything travels through the HDMI connector. If we prefer, we can also connect headphones on the rear panel for personal use and enjoyment.

Regarding background noise, this Asus F1 has an active cooling system that is connected at all times. We have two options, the theater mode, which will be the quietest with about 28 dBA and the standard mode, with 32 dBA. And the truth is that it is not enough to be an LED projector, we see that those 120W of lamp consumption translate into enough heat, we have been able to verify it ourselves. And keep in mind that the power supply is external.

Final words and conclusion about Asus F1

Asus F1 is a very high performance projector in the segment of equipment with LED technology. Its high power lamp with 1200 lumens and the short throw that allows you to configure screens of up to 210 inches in native Full HD resolution is one of the great attractions, since in many models on the market the light output is the main handicap.

In addition, it is a projector with a long useful life that will allow us to use it to play for long hours, especially thanks to its 120 Hz refresh rate, and wherever we want, because it weighs only 1.8 Kg and includes a transport case. Perhaps we will miss the support for HDR in a projector of this cost, in order to improve the quality of film projection.

We have also been surprised by the excellent image quality it has and the spectacular color representation, with a 100% NTSC color space. Far behind are the first teams that showed bluish colors and poor quality. It has 6 image modes, automatic keystone adjustment, autofocus and the ability to display 3D content.

We recommend our guide to the best protectors on the market

The connection panel allows us to connect HDMI, VGA video sources and also wireless screens, something highly demanded and necessary to make it compatible with Smartphone. We have only been left on the road the possibility of playing content from flash drives, and support for DLNA by Ethernet cable, which would be something that would round off the team.

Another of its strengths is the sound quality, the triple speaker 2.1 system provide us with a strong and clear sound practicing in any environment. The excellent bass thanks to the subwoofer will make us not miss external audio equipment. Of course, the cooling system is a bit noisy when we do not have active audio.

To finish, we will have this Asus F1 available in the market for a price of 829 euros in the main web stores in the country. It is not a cheap equipment, but it is one of the best projectors with LED technology recommended to play on the market. For our part, we recommend your purchase if you are looking for something of extreme durability and good quality to use daily.
