Unboxing and design

The Asus GR8 II comes to us in a box of small dimensions and with a very minimalist design. As usual on the cover we can identify that it is the most powerful model that exists among the GR8.

On the back we have all the main technical characteristics and its compatibility with virtual reality glasses.

Once we open the box we find inside the Asus GR8 II PC , power cable, power supply, installation discs and manuals.

The Asus GR8 II It is an excellent pre-assembled desktop computer in which the manufacturer has put all his usual love in all products. When we stop to see its design we find aggressive and well-groomed lines, where an intermediate area of bronze color stands out on its front. The first thing we think when we see it… What a beautiful console!

Regarding its dimensions, it has 29.9 cm (height) x 28.1 cm (length) x 8.8 cm (width), 4 liters of volume and a weight of 4kg. Both sides offer a smooth design where the silkscreen of the ROG (Republic Of Gamer) logo stands out.

Going back to the front we have two USB 3.0 connections, an audio input and output, a power button and it also does a reset.

Both in the upper and lower areas there are grids that allow the hot air outlet inside the equipment to be improved to optimize its cooling.

It is a very powerful team to run video games thanks to a configuration based on a Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB graphics card that has shown to have excellent behavior with both virtual glasses and Full HD games.

The graphics card is accompanied by an advanced and very powerful quad-core Intel Core i7 7700 processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture at frequencies of 3.6 GHz in base mode and 4.2 GHz in turbo mode. Along with the processor we find 16 GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory in a dual chanel configuration, the equipment has two free slots so it can be expanded up to 64 GB.

Storage is provided by a combination of 256 GB of SATA SSD technology and a 500 to 1 TB mechanical disk, so you can enjoy all the benefits of flash storage without sacrificing the high capacity of mechanical disks. For example, you can leave the Windows 10 operating system installed with the main applications on the SSD and heavy games, applications on the mechanical hard drive.

As much power generates a lot of heat no matter how efficient all the components are, the Asus GR8 II has a separate design for the most aggressive heat source in a PC: processor and graphics card. Temperatures and consumption

The temperatures of the equipment are totally the expected ones with a temperatures of 29 ºC at rest and 62 ºC at maximum power with respect to the processor. The graphic card as it is a reference model is found at 32ºC and a maximum temperature of 68ºC. We can overclock it, but we don't think the improvement is as substantial as the ºC gain.

Consumption is up to the expectations set with 56 W at rest and 189 W at full capacity throughout the team. The results are really good and are expected on a system with Intel Kaby Lake processors and Nvidia Pascal graphics card.

We can define the Asus GR8 II as one of the best small-size PCs on the market. Unlike the rest, the cooling and sound are linked and almost verges on excellence. Its new design has enchanted us and its dimensions are ideal for it to look in a maximum design living room or desk.

As we have seen in our tests, the 3GB GTX 1060 graphics card and the i7-7700 processor that are installed offer excellent performance. So much so that it meets perfectly in such demanding resolutions as Full HD and 2560 x 1440 pixels.
