Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition technical features
Design and unboxing
Asus makes a very attractive presentation with its Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition ! On the cover we see an image of the new graphics card, its compatibility with Asus Auto Extreme technology, its double fan and 4GB of memory to supply the needs of users with Full HD resolution.
While on the back they indicate all the technical characteristics of the product in more detail and its rear connections.
Once we open the product we find the following bundle:
- Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition graphics card. Quick guide. CD with drivers and management software.
The Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition graphics card uses the new graphics architecture Nvidia Pascal, specifically it is the GP107 that It is manufactured in 16 nm FinFET and one of the most efficient cards having a TDP of just 75W.
The dimensions of the graphics card are quite standard with 21.2 x 11.1 x 3.8 cm and a Dual Slot size that we can install in 90% of the boxes on the market.
These transistors are distributed within the chip in a total of 6 Streaming Multiprocessors units, these in turn contain the large number of 768 CUDA cores with Pascal architecture. We also found no less than 48 texturizing units (TMUs) and 32 crawling units (ROPs).
The Streaming Multiprocessors run Some frequencies on its 1, 290 MHz GPU in base mode that goes up to 1, 392 MHz under Turbo B oost 3.0 for really good performance. Custom models come more nut hikes, so their performance is far superior to this reference model.
GDDR5 memory continues to accompany us from several previous generations and surely this is the last batch of graphics cards to mount them, to make way for the new HBM memory chips. The card has 4 GB of effective 7000 MHz GDDR5 memory and a total TDP of just 75W, as we have previously commented.
As expected, it has a new double fan heatsink and that incorporates an aluminum block to cool both memories and the processor. We are glad to see that it incorporates the modern Cooltech fans with PWM control and operating mode at 0dB. With all this, it promises to keep the Pascal GP107 core at a much lower operating temperature than the reference model with very low noise.
In addition, the fans include Dual-Ball Bearing technology that allows total silence at low loads and twice the longevity for launch. The 0DB function stops working when the graphics card raises its core to 55ºC.
As an important novelty is that this version does not need power from the power supply and collects all the power from the PCI Express connection . This means that we will avoid the use of wiring and it is ideal for small equipment.
Finally we show you the rear connections made up of:
- 1 DVI connection, 1 DisPlayPORT connection, 1 HDMI connection.
PCB and internal components
To remove the heatsink we must remove four screws located on the chip and all the screws that fix all the heatsinks (they are enough). This is the view of the heatsink, as we see does not incorporate any type of copper heatpipes… This is a detail that would help you to cool much better.
The Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition features a custom PCB with 3 + 1 power phases and Super Alloy Power II components. They have also integrated premium alloy components into their graphics card designs to enhance overall reliability, thus generating boards that are approximately 40% cooler than their previous designs.

For benchmarks we will use the following titles:
- 3DMark Fire Strike normal.3DMark Fire Strike version 4K.3dMark Time Spy.Heaven 4.0.Doom 4.Overwatch.Tomb Raider.Battlefield 4.Mirror's Edge Catalyst (New) .
All tests have been passed with the filters to the maximum unless we indicate otherwise. In order to have adequate performance, we have carried out three types of tests: the first is the most common at Full HD 1920 x 1080, the second resolution is making the leap to 2K or 1440P (2560 x 1440P) gamers and the most enthusiastic with 4K (3840 x 2160). The operating system we have used has been Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and the latest drivers available from the Nvidia website.
What are we looking for in the tests?
First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:
FRAMES BY SECONDS |
|
Frames for Seconds. (FPS) |
Gameplay |
Less than 30 FPS | Limited |
30 - 40 FPS | Playable |
40 - 60 FPS | Good |
Greater than 60 FPS | Fairly Good or Excellent |
Synthetic benchmarks
We attach the most important tests that we can do at synthetic levels, among them we find Time Spy, 3DMark Fire, 3DMARK Fire Ultra and Heaven 4.0 with DirectX 12 support.
Game Testing
We have decided to make the leap to checking various games manually. The reason? Very simple, we want to give a much more realistic vision and cover tests with current games. Since we make an effort, it is consistent with the level of the website and that of our readers. This time we have not inserted the graphics with the 4K performance tests because they are really irrelevant.

Overclocking
Note: Remember that overclocking or manipulation carries a risk, we and any manufacturer are not responsible for improper use, use the head and always do so at your own risk.
We have increased the overclocking capacity by + 100 MHz in the core to a maximum of 1698 MHz and the memories in stock values. The result is a gain of just 2FPS… although not many, but at least we get a little extra.
WE RECOMMEND YOU Asus Z170 Pro Gaming / Aura with support for 3D printingWe are very satisfied with the result obtained, also with good temperatures and without the need for external power. We do not know if we will test its STRIX version but first we expect a good overclock of it, since it does not have a power limitation.
Temperature and consumption
The temperatures of the Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition have been really good, with considerably less noise and temperatures than the reference model. At rest we have obtained 50ºC (remember that it is a 0DB system, which is the same as a fan stopped at rest) and at maximum performance it reaches 62ºC in no case. As the overclocking has been so mild, temperatures barely rise to 65ºC .
Another of the great advantages of this range is the reduced consumption that we have in the equipment. Until very recently it was unthinkable to have high-end graphics and get 68W at idle and 125W playing with an Intel i7-6700K processor at stock speeds.
Final words and conclusion about Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition
The Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition is a graphics card with excellent dissipation and laughable consumption, which is why the guys from Asus and Nvidia have proven to launch one of the most powerful and efficient cards. We remind you that you do not need external auxiliary power !
We recommend reading our guide to the best graphics cards on the market.
At HD and Full HD resolutions there is no game that runs through us, it really goes great in this regard. When we go up to 2560 x 1440p the chip reaches its limit and there are games that do not exceed 30 FPS with all its filters at maximum. So its use is intended for eSports and users who play at the most standard resolution: 1920 x 1080p.
In short, if you are looking for an efficient graphics card, with a price of approximately 209 euros and you want to play Full HD without leaving more than 600 euros. The Asus GTX 1050 Ti Expedition is one of the most attractive alternatives currently.
We expand information: They confirm that their version of Asus Expedition 2GB goes on sale with a very tempting price: 176.50 euros. Thus entering within the price of 160 to 180 euros and that makes it a 100% recommended card.
