Asus leader in the manufacture of hardware, peripherals and routers. It has recently launched its new Asus MG279Q 27-inch monitor with WQHD 2560 x 1440 resolution designed for gaming and professional use. Among its benefits we will find an IPS panel, with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and AMD FreeSync technology. In this analysis we will explain everything you need to know about it.

Many of you will wonder what resolution you have or what is the best. The standard is the 1920 × 1080 also known as FULL HD, then we move on to the 2K screens: 2560 × 1440 and the latter as the 4K 3840 × 2160.
This specific model is positioned in the ideal resolution for graphic design. For example, all iMACs already have this resolution by default and those of us who dedicate ourselves to graphic design really like it.
Asus MG279Q
We received a sturdy and colorful box from Asus. On the cover we find an image of the monitor, all its characteristics and most important certificates. While in the rear all the technical characteristics. Once we open the monitor we find first class protections with polystyrene, plastic bags and a complete Bundle:
- Asus MG279Q monitor.Peana.Power supply and cable.Connection cable: DisplayPort and HDMI.Installation disk.Manual and quick guide.
The Asus MG279Q is the first 27-inch monitor with 2560 x 1440 (qHD) resolution to incorporate a 144Hz refresh rate natively and a 4ms response time. This monitor is aimed at the most Siberian consumer, who is looking for the fidelity of an IPS panel and the advantages of playing at these refresh rates.
Going into more detail we find a panel is 27 inches IPS Ultra-Wide viewing angle: 178 degrees of vision that ensure you do not lose color from any angle of view. It has a maximum brightness of 350 cd / m and a contrast ratio of 100, 000, 000: 1 (Asus Smart Contrast). In our first impression, the calibration was quite optimal, although I recommend the use of a colimeter to get the most out of the IPS monitors.
The monitor has a clearly user-friendly ROG design, aggressive lines and texture similar to this gaming range. I really like the use of this base / stand that allows turns, inclinations and flexibility that will adapt to our needs. As expected, it is compatible with the VESA 100 x 1000 mm connection, in case you want to place it on an articulated arm.
One of the most surprising things is that it's packed with HDMI HDMI / MHL 2.0, 2 x HDMI, and 1 x DisplayPort video connections, three USB 3.0 connections, a 3.5mm Mini-Jack audio output, and the power outlet.
Many of you have come across the analysis of this monitor for only FreeSync compatibility and its famous benefits for the player. For those who do not know, I will summarize it briefly, with this technology we end the interruptions when we play and achieve a higher performance than that of a monitor without this technology. Like all monitors compatible with this technology it works on a scale between 35Hz and 90Hz (FreeSync cannot be activated with a refresh rate higher than 90Hz and is not compatible with dual CrossFireX solutions).
Finally, I would like to highlight two technologies:
- ASUS Ultra-Low Blue Light technology protects users by reducing harmful blue light by up to 70% using 4 filter levels selectable from the monitor's on-screen menu. In parallel, Flicker-free technology reduces flicker to ensure the most comfortable gaming experience.
- GameVisual technology has 6 factory settings specifically created to adjust the image to different usage scenarios. Users will be able to access this unique function using the dedicated key and in the monitor setup menu.
OSD menu
Its OSD menu is quite comfortable and we get used to it pretty quickly. It allows us to configure any value easily and intuitively: color tones, contrast, brightness, sRGB colors, profiles and other adjustments thanks to its 5-way navigation joystick.
Test of performance
We have made a good test bench when it comes to testing this magnificent monitor. We detail it below:
- Office automation and graphic design: I have felt very comfortable when working with graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw or AutoCAD. The distribution of the windows are excellent as we have twice the size of Full HD resolution. Games: Although it is an ideal monitor to work in games, it behaves very well. Thanks to its 5 ms and excellent image quality. Particularly I have been stuck for 1200 resolution time and this is one of the few 2K monitors that has made me feel comfortable with it, to the point that I am considering its acquisition. Movies and series: Although this unit has a bit of Bleeding it is not serious, as it is something that suffers from all IPS monitors. Experience and built-in sound are more than enough to buy this monitor.
Final words and conclusion
The MG279Q is the first 27-inch monitor with WQHD 2560 x 1440 resolution that incorporates an IPS panel (offers wide and clear viewing angles, vivid images and sharpness within the reach of very few) with a refresh rate of 144 hz and a response time of 4ms. The normal thing is to find an IPS monitor with a maximum speed of 60 Hz or a TN panel monitor with 120 or 144 Hz for gamers. When we combine both options we have the definitive monitor.
As if that were not enough, it also has Game Visual one-click technologies, plus Game Enhanced Combat and 100% sRGB that improves the player experience.
Confirm that it is compatible for both ATI graphics cards (official FreeSync support) and Nvidia. The experience could not have been better and the results obtained ensure that every euro invested in it becomes one of your best purchases.
Finally I would like to highlight its rear connections with USB 3.0, HDMI, Displayport and two 2W (RMS) speakers. It is already available in Spain for a price of 650 euros.
