Asus has put the batteries and in what way! with the launch of high-resolution monitors like the Asus MG28UQ. This new generation of monitors incorporate a 28-inch screen, 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160), an incredible design, Freesync compatible and 1 ms response time. Without a doubt, one of the new beasts on the market… and as always we analyze it with much affection. Don't miss our review!
We appreciate the trust and the transfer of the product to Asus:
Asus MG28UQ technical specifications
Many of you will wonder what resolution you have or what is the best. The standard is the 1920 × 1080 also known as FULL HD, then we move on to the 2K screens: 2560 × 1440 and the latter as the 4K 3840 × 2160.
This specific model is positioned in the ideal resolution for graphic design. For example, all iMACs already have this resolution by default and those of us who dedicate ourselves to graphic design really like it.
Asus MG28UQ: Unboxing and Design
Asus has us accustomed to robust and oversized boxes for its top of the range products. This time it was not going to be less for the Asus MG28UQ. On the cover is a picture of the monitor and the most important features. While in the back we have more information about the specifications.
Once we open the box we find the following inside:
- Asus MG28UQ Monitor .Power CableDisplayPort CableQuick Start GuideUSB 3.0 Cable SupportCDWarranty CardHDMI Cable
The Asus MG28UQ is the first 28-inch monitor with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (UHD / 4K) that incorporates a refresh rate of 60 hz natively if we use the DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity, in the case that HDMI is low to 30 Hz. This monitor is geared for the most enthusiastic gamers and users looking for the best of the best.
We come across physical dimensions with a base of 660 x 566 x 233.4 mm and a weight of 8 KG.
Its panel is 10-bit TN-LED and has a maximum brightness of 330 cd / m and a contrast ratio of 100, 000, 000: 1 (Asus Smart Contrast). In our first impression the calibration came quite optimal although I recommend that if you have nearby, the use of a colimeter to finish tuning the panel. Its viewing angles are 160 to 170 degrees.
Going into its design reminds us a lot of the Republic of Gamer (ROG) line that the company usually sends us. Somewhat thin but not ultra fine edges, a quality base and a sober and elegant design. As expected, it is compatible with the VESA 100 x 100 mm connection, in case you want to place it on an articulated arm or a wall adapter.
Among its rear connections we have HDMI v2.0, DisplayPort, HDMI v1.4, two USB 3.0 connections, a 3.5mm Mini-Jack audio output and the power socket.
What is FreeSync? It is the technology that integrates this monitor that is designed by AMD that we summarize below: with this technology we end interruptions when we play and achieve superior performance than a monitor without this technology. Like all monitors compatible with this technology it works on a scale between 35Hz and 60Hz (FreeSync cannot be activated with a refresh rate higher than 90Hz and is not compatible with dual CrossFireX solutions).
It also integrates ultra-reduced blue light technology that protects this type of light that is harmful to your sight and allows us to adjust up to four levels. It also incorporates an anti - flicker technology that improves the gaming experience and prevents eye strain, which is highly recommended during long gaming sessions.
OSD menu
Its OSD menu is quite comfortable and we get used to it pretty quickly. It allows us to configure any value easily and intuitively: color tones, contrast, brightness, sRGB colors, profiles and other adjustments thanks to its 5-way navigation joystick.
WE RECOMMEND YOUUS and Ryzen 4000: Amazon China launches 3 gaming laptopsFinal words and conclusion about Asus MG28UQ
The Asus MG28UQ is a monitor with a 10-bit TN panel, a 28-inch screen that is ideal for this resolution. And we believe that this resolution / screen ratio is better than 32 ″… since it does not imply moving several meters away from our desk. Also the monitor is fully pivotable and incorporates AMD Freesync technology to enhance our gaming experience.
We have carried out in our test bench several performance tests to assess the Asus MG28UQ with different uses:
- Office and graphic design: Although its panel is TN-LED it does a good job for those fantastic 10 bits. For office automation it is useful and we do not get tired of the view, but it is true that for graphic design the resolution comes in handy, but since it is not an IPS panel the colors are not as true as this last panel. Games: It is one of the best monitors we have tested. Its response time of 1ms, its 60 Hz with displayport and the large number of adjustments that we can make from the OSD is one of the best options on the market. Movies and series: Everything will depend on the unit that touches you. If it is barely bleeding, the experience is unbeatable, although there is little content in 4K currently. But as the rescaling is quite good and with a good distance it is a great option.
It is not currently online in the best stores in Spain, but its price will fluctuate 640 euros. Its availability is almost imminent in our market.
